Authorities of the 3 division, Nigerian Army said on Wednesday that the dead body of missing Major General Idris Alkali (rtd), the former Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, has been recovered.
The corpse was discovered in an abandoned well at Guchwet village in Shen District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The 3rd Armoured Division’s Garrison Commander, Nigerian Army and leader of search and rescue operation, Brigdier General Umar Mohammad disclosed this in Jos following the recovery.
He said that it was one of the suspects who reported himself, last week, to the police, that led the Army to the abandoned well where the remains of the retired Major General which was earlier exhumed, was reburied.
“The body of retired Gen. Idris Alkali, who was declared missing on the 3 September, 2018, has been recovered in an abandoned well at Guchwet village, Shen District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State”, Mohammed said.

A statement reiterating that Major General Alkali’s body was found’ signed by Col Kayode Ogunsanya said, “Following Headquarters 3 Division declaration of 8 persons wanted in connection with the missing of the immediate past Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Idris Alkali with the assistance of the Nigerian Police, 6 wanted persons have reported to the Nigerian Police, Plateau Sate Command.
“During interrogation, having being confronted with undeniable facts, one of the wanted persons who participated in the relocation of the senior officer’s corpse away from the opened shallow grave confessed and agreed to lead own troops and Nigerian Police to where the remains of the senior office was dumped.
“Based on this credible information, cordon and search operation was planned to one of the abandoned wells located at Duchwet Village, Shen District in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State in conjunction with the Nigerian Police and Fire Service .
“After evacuation of the water in the abandoned well, the remains of the senior officer was found in a sack ladden with heavy stones.
“Thereafter, the remains of the senior officer was recovered from the abandoned well and taken to 3 Division Medical Hospital and Services awaiting further directives from the Army Headquarters.
