Nigerian Army troops of 222 Battalion fighting to dislodge Boko Haram terrorists from the North east on Sunday morning at about 11am, charged through an ambush set up by the terrorists along Maiduguri-Bama road, killing many of the terrorists while several others ran into the bush with bullet wounds.
After the hot exchange of fire which last more than an hour, the gallant troops recovered arms and ammunition including 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 2 AK 47 Rifles and several ammunition including 94 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted with one destroyed techno Phone, and 2 thousand naira.

Very reliable military sources who confirmed the foiled ambush, said, “Reports from the field just confirmed that troops of 21 Brigade led by the Brigade Commander on a clearance patrol in support of ‘Operation Rainbow’ were ambushed by BHT along Kanuri-Aulari Road at about 11 am on Sunday 16 Sept. 2018.
“There was serious exchange of gunfire. The gallant troops’ of 222 battalion were reportedly high on morale as a result of the just concluded assurance visit to the theatre of operation by the COAS Lt Gen TY Buratai.
“Consequently, they successfully cleared the ambush and neutralized the terrorists and recovered their weapons and ammunition. Many others bolted into the bush.
“As a result, 1 GPMG and 2 AK 47 and several rounds of ammunition belonging to the terrorist were recovered.
“As at the time of filing this report, troops were still exploiting the general areas in search of some Boko Haram Terrorists who escaped with gunshot wounds.”
