British government donates book to Depot NA; to enhance Reading Culture, R & D.

The British Government on Wednesday donated books to Major General DD Amadu’s Library at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria to enhance reading culture as well as research and development not only among the recruits on training and Instructors but the entire Chindit Cantonment community.

While handing over the books to the Commandant Depot Nigerian Army, Major General Victor Okwudili-Ezugwu, the Commander, British Military Advisory and Training Team in Nigeria (BMATT), Colonel Jeremy Bogshow said that the gesture was to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between Britain and Nigerian Army in the area of capacity development.

“The relationship between this particular institution and the British Government dates back sometimes and it will continue to exist and move forward”,  the BMATT Commander said.

“I am delighted to be able to present these books on behalf of the BMATT to the General and to Major General DD Amadu’s library, I hope your recruits, your staff and your families will make good use of them though they are military books but there are some very good books”, he said.

Responding, Commandant Depot Nigerian Army appreciated the BMATT for what he described as a morale booster and assured proper utilization of the books.

In the Commandant’s words, “Depot is a Centre of excellence where we train our recruits to become combatants and robust soldiers for the Nigerian Army. We do both physical and mental training here.

Major General Ezugwu said the library was particularly established just last year to build intellectual capacity for the recruits, officers and families of soldiers in the Cantonment.

He noted that the books would assist the recruits, instructors, other officers and their families expand their knowledge.

“BMATT has been striving hard to help Nigeria build the capacity and efficiency of its military”, General Ezugwu added.

Also speaking on behalf of 77 Regular Recruits Intake, Recruit Asoh Thomps-Odey observed that the books would add value to DD Amadu’s Library situated in Depot Nigerian Army.

Recruit Odey assured the Commander BMATT Colonel Bogshaw that recruits would maximally utilize the books to improve their knowledge on contemporary military skills.
