Buratai decorates One Army Warrant Officer, 2 MWOs promoted to Army Captains & Army Headquarters RSM; charges them on sustainance of discipline, performance

The Nigerian Army has promoted and decorated One Army Warrant Officer and 2 Master Warrant Officers to the Commissioned ranks of Army Captains while the other was elevated to the rank of Army Headquarters RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major), which is the top RSM in the entire Nigerian Army.

The newly promoted and decorated Army Captains are AWO Agbo Nwabueze, the former Army headquarters RSM, and MWO Tijani Namadi while the new AHQ RSM is MWO Ibrahim Zakariah.

In his address, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai started by going nolstagic saying that as a student early in life, his ambition was to join the Army, go to battle, rise to Staff Sergeant before going to NDA to be commissoned as an officer before retiring.

“But God has his way and his will was done in my life. It is really a thing of Destiny because my had dreams but today some are officers and some are non commissioned officers NCOs.

To the newly promoted officers, he said, “This your ranks are well deserved. You have all earned the ranks by working for it. Though by virtue of the number of years already put in service, you have little time left, you still have much more to give.

“Your next postings will take you to Units where you will impart your knowledge of discipline and regimentation on officers of the ranks of Lieutenants and others. We see you as very valuable to the service. You will still need to perform important tasks.

He advised the new Regimental Sergeant Major of Army headquarters to raise his game as the new appointment tough task adding “We expect very high standard of discipline and organization from you. There must be no chaos including traffic at Army.

With officers and family members

Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Army, Lt. Gen LO Adeosun appreciated God for the elevation of the officers noting that all their lives, they have been serving the nation and the Nigerian Army diligently.

Advising the Captains that as officers, their responsibility is now higher, he told them that startutority, a Captain in the Army in Second in Command in a Company which is made up of 156 soldiers in the Infantry.

“In most cases, these days the Captains are the ones who command the Company, so you can see the enormity of responsibility on you”.

Adeosun however urged the officer’s not to allow their new status get into their head and change them from whom they used to be saying “Don’t be different from who you have been in terms of conduct and performance. Your promotion should be a very good encouragement to your colleagues’.

Responding on behalf of the promoted, Captain Agbo Nwabueze thanked God for using the COAS Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai to transform the Army to it’s high standards of today.

He said, “Lt. Gen. Buratai’s input in terms of doctrine, organization, training, and Orbat review of the Nigerian Army in operations has made us to understand the Army better.

“When you (COAS) slashed school fees in our Command Schools, you made our families happy and our children to go to school. Your renovation of our living quarters made us to live longer. When you introduced barracks empowerment programme, you made our families industrious.

Continuing Capt. Nwabueze said, “When you (COAS) introduced feeding of over 1,500 officers and soldiers at Army headquarters, it made us proud, our morale went higher and it made us work harder. The expansion and renovation of Army headquarters complex to a glamorous and beffititng status also boosted our morale and pride”.

He then thanked the Army Council Principal staff officers and soldiers of Army headquarters for all their support.

Among senior officers present at the decoration were the Chief of Administration, Major General MS Yusuf, Chief of Logistics, Major General Uniugbe, Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Major General Azinta, Chief of Accounts and Budget, Major General Bakare, Chief of Military Intelligence, Major General SA Adebayo, Military Secretary, Army, Major General Ochigbano, Director of Budget, Major General Adesope, Director of Plans, Major General BO Sawyer and Acting Provost Marshall Army, Brigadier General H Ahmed.
