Buratai Inaugurates 54 Officers for Army War College, Nigeria, Course 2 in Abuja; Commandant Harps on Operational level expertise in tackling security threats.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai on Friday inaugurated Course 2, of the Army War College, Nigeria (AWCN), made up of 54 officers of the ranks of Colonels and Lt. Colonels and equivalent for a 33 weeks intensive training programme aimed at bridging the observed training gaps between strategic and tactical levels of warfare among others reason.

Chief of Policy and Plans, (COPP), Nigerian Army, Major General Rasheed Yusuf who represented COAS at the occasion, flagged off the course with a call on the participants to show utmost dedication for the duration of the course.

Commandant of the Army War College, Major General John Enenche while noting that participants are made up of 51 army officers, 1 Naval officer, 1 airforce officer and 1 officer from the Federal Road Safety Commission, stated that the contemporary security environment in Nigeria and the world in present day, can be aptly referred to as complex, due to the nature of threats and advancement in technology.

In his keynote address juxtaposing the imperative of the course, Enenche said, “Operational level expertise is highly sought at this period when we are faced with a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous security environment.

Commending the initiative of the founding fathers of the College, particularly the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Buratai, the Commandant said, “Since its inception, the college has been able to run its maiden course as well as provide Nigerian Army with an academic platform to rethink and re-strategize on the best approach suitable to confront most security challenges currently faced by the nation at the operational level”.

To the participants, he said, “Let me carefully state that, the task before you is enormous and the expectations are high. Course 2 will be opportune d to use the new curriculum which is designed for 33 weeks. The content is very rich and comparable with any of the best War Colleges in the world”.

“However, it is my hope that with the caliber of officers assembled here, the vision and aspirations of the college will be realized regarding the end product”.

“It is expected that during your stay at the college as participants of AWCN Course 2, you will not only explore new frontiers of knowledge on the world’s new security threats but also proffer feasible strategies to neutralize it”.

“Hence, I will urge you not to only seek to sharpen your intellect, analytic skills and conceptual abilities but also try to examine issues affecting our country”.

“ You are the critical mass that the Nigerian Army and the other services and agencies represented here, is investing in, for the future”.

Present at the inauguration, were the Chief of Logistics at Army headquarters, Major General Kabull and the Commander, Army headquarters Garrison, Major General Myam.
