Buratai: Women Army Officers and Soldiers making us proud in North East, Other Operations; urges women empowerment to tackle gender inequality

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, said officers and soldiers of Nigerian Army Women Corp were making the Army proud in the North East and other there’s of Operation with the commitment and performances.
Buratai also said Nigerian women can only fight gender inequality targeted at them by the time they empower themselves educationally and in other sectors.
The COAS made this known when a delegation of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
While underscoring the need for women to be empowered financially and educationally, he charged the NAWOJ members to be in the vanguard of advocating gender balance, through their media platforms.

The media should focus more on highlighting the plight of Nigerian women. But even more important is the need for women to also empower themselves,” said the COAS.
Lt. Gen. Buratai, who noted that the Army appreciates the importance and value of women, also revealed that several female officers and troops of the Nigerian Army are not only doing well in Army Formations and Units, but have actively participated in various military operations in the North-East and other parts of the country.
Earlier in her remark, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esen, Chairperson of the Chapter, commended the Army for safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity from both internal threats and external aggression.
She noted that the combat strides of the Army against insurgents and other criminal elements have assisted in fostering peace not only in the North-East, but across the entire country.
She appreciated the COAS for putting in place necessary mechanisms that have paved way for more women to be recruited into the Nigerian Army.
