CNS Lays Foundation for Naval Personnel Places of Worship in Abuja; Harps on Spiritual Maturity as Moral component of Fighting Power

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas has disclosed that a balanced level of spiritual maturity is necessary for the military personnel to maintain the required level of conceptual and moral component of his fighting power.
Speaking at the Ground Breaking and Foundation Laying Ceremony of Places of Worship at Navy Town, Asokoro in Abuja on Thursday, May 30, 2019, the CNS said spiritual maturity will enable the military personnel to retain a rational balance needed for the effective employment of his physical competencies, to achieve victory in battle.
Regretting that “The current spate of insecurity across some parts in our dear nation has hampered government’s effort at emplacing enduring peace and development over the past years” Ibas said, “More worrisome are the actions of many of our misguided youth.
“This has called to question the moral conscience of our society.
“The erection of places of worship would therefore help build the moral fibber of citizenry to provide emotional stability and moral courage needed to contribute positively to national development.
“I therefore pray that the gracious hands of Almighty abide with the builders from the beginning to the end of this project.
Noting that deliberate efforts have been committed to building barracks accommodation and other welfare projects at various locations within the country, the CNS said, “However, the erection of appropriate places of worships within the barracks is equally as germane as the provision of living accommodation and other administrative and operational commitments.
“It is my sincere honour and privilege to join you this morning for this ground breaking ceremony for the erection of places of worship here in navy town Asokoro, Abuja.
He continued, “The Nigerian Navy has consciously channelled great attention to requisite infrastructural development to complement her operational, administrative and welfare objectives, as captured in the CNS Strategic Directives.
“As we lay the foundation of these worship centres today, I believe we are laying the foundation for the spiritual and moral development of the Service.
“Considering the large number of personnel that would dwell in this barracks, there are great prospects for the spiritual development of huge proportion of naval personnel and their family members that will make use of these worship places.
“The onus is therefore on our spiritual leaders to ensure that on completion, these centres will serve the intended purpose, as a place of spiritual upliftment for the benefit of the navy and armed forces at large.
“However, the NN would not have been able to embark on this undertaking without the active support of the Federal Government. I therefore seize this opportunity to sincerely thank the President and C-in C for his committed and resolve to emplace a strong and virile navy capable of protecting Nigeria’s maritime interest and his committed to the welfare of the personnel. I also thank the honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory who is our landlord, for the building of the barracks accommodation.
