As part of efforts by the Implementation Committee on the Curtailment of Cattle Rustling in Nigeria (ICCCRN), the committee set up by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris is set to create a data base for all Cattles in Nigeria.
Assistant Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the implementation committee, Charles Ugomouh who made the disclosure at a colloquium on good governance organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abuja, noted that the committee is already in advanced state of discussion to ensure tracking of all animals with a view to monitoring them.
The Colloquium has as theme, ‘The New Headlong Combat: Cattle Rustling, Robbery, Kidnapping, and Terrorism; Making Nigeria Safe Heaven’.
His words, “Already, the ICCCRN is in advance stage in engaging the services if an internationally acclaimed company for electronic identification and tracking of all animals in the country as a means of not only eradicating Cattle Rustling but making it highly non-profitable and unattractive”.
“This will also create a database for the Cattle population in Nigeria for a sustainable economic growth” the AIG added.

Ugomouh however pointed out that that his committee was yet to receive concrete commitments from major stakeholders, partners and collaborators including state governments, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government and the private sector.
Explaining that the committee was set up on December 13, 2016 with mandate to bring about sustainable curtailment of Cattle Rustling and its attendant security implications in Nigeria, the AIG said, “The attendant economic implications and insecurity of Cattle rustling is grave due to the activities of dare devil rustlers”.
“Rustling with automatic weapons storm herdsmen settlement (communities) killing, kidnapping, robbing and taking away their cattle thereby unleashing terror on the citizenry”.
“Millions of naira is lost with distortion of the food chain supply system and negative impact on the gross domestic product (GDP)”.
“The role of the Police in the establishment of the implementation committee therefore, is to nip the menace in the bud through the enforcement of the edits/laws on federal/states animal control posts nationwide”.
Ugomouh said, “The Animal Disease Control Law of the Federation (LFN 2004) provides for Cattle Loading/Offloading permit, livestock ownership identification and livestock movement control
