Counter-Insurgency: Army Solicits Media Cooperation against Boko Haram..

The Nigerian Army has called for more cooperation and collaboration from the media in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the North East. 

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Brigadier General Abdulmalik Biu, made the appeal in Maiduguri Borno state during a luncheon organized for Defence correspondents in the state. 

He tasked them on professionalism and also pointed out that they are critical stakeholders in the fight against terrorists.  

He also stated that the luncheon was organized in appreciation of their efforts and to thank them for their good support.  

He stressed that their partnership and continual reportage has been a vital weapon in the drive to end insurgency.  

The GOC urged them to continue in the path of truth and feel free to clarify facts from the military authority before publication.  

He assured the journalists of the Division’s cooperation at all times, emphasizing that the Division has competent media/public relations officers that are ever ready to attend to them. 

The Acting General Officer Commanding added that the larger populace will continue to depend on the information coming from the correspondents on ground in arriving at the conclusion about insurgency in the North East. 

Responding, the Chairman Correspondents Chapel Maiduguri Chapter, Haruna Biu assured the GOC of their continual reportage of events and maintaining the ethics of the profession at all times. 

He condemned the activities of some unscrupulous elements especially those using social media aimed at tarnishing the image of journalists in the state. 

He promised that they will work with the Division to see to the end of insurgency in the North East.
