Crackdown on Criminality: Katsina Police arrest 50 suspected Armed Robbers/Kidnappers, Cattle Rustlers, Vandals.

The Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Wakili on Tuesday rolled out the successes achieved by the Police in fighting armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry and cattle rustling among other crimes in the state noting that at the last count, the police had arrested 50 suspects while 12 assorted arms including AK 47, locally made rifles and Dane guns were recovered from the criminals.

 

According to the CP those arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping form the largest number of 28 suspects while trans-border Indian Hemp traffickers are 4 and Cattle rustlers as well as vandals make up the rest. There was also recovery of 309 assorted ammunition.

 

Giving a breakdown of some of the breakthroughs, he said, “On 12/01/2018 at about 10:00hrs, the Command based on a tip off succeeded in bursting a notorious syndicate of armed robbery/kidnapping suspects.

 

“The suspects  (1) Isah Sani m aged 25yrs (2) Abdullahi Salisu ‘m’ aged 30yrs and (3) Babangida Bello m aged 22yrs all of Danmusa and Matazu LGAs of Katsina State,  were alleged to have kidnapped one Sayyaba Alhaji Ishiye ‘f’ aged 8yrs of Dadanya village, Danmusa LGA of Katsina state.     Suspects have confessed to the crime and are making useful statements assisting the police in their investigation.

 

“On 16/01/2018 at about 0015hrs, based on a tip up, the Command succeeded in bursting another syndicate of notorious armed robbery/kidnapping for ransom syndicate at Dan-Musa LGA area of Katsina state.

 

“Police patrol team while on routine patrol had an encounter with the hoodlums and arrested one 1. Dikko Adamu ‘m’ aged 22yrs of Katsira village, Danmusa LGA of Katsina state and 2. Umar Abubakar ‘m’ aged 21yrs of Makuka village, Danmusa LGA of Katsina state. 

 

“Also one AK 47 rifle with Breach No. PN 2119 and two round of live Ammunition were recovered in their possession. Investigation is in progress with a view to arresting other members of their syndicate.

 

“On 25/01/2018 at about 14:00hrs, the Command succeeded in arresting a notorious syndicate that specializes in trans-border trafficking of Indian hemp to Niger Republic.  Nemesis caught up with the duo of one Abubakar Umar ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Gwoza LGA area of Borno state and Abubakar Hassan ‘m’ aged 24yrs of Dorayi qrts, Kano state who were arrested with thirty-two parcels of sealed dry leaves reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp. 

 

“It was uncovered by our vigilante policemen during a routine stop and search at Fago checking point along Daura road, Katsina state, hidden inside bags of clothes in a motor vehicle.

 

“In another development, on 17/01/2018 the command also succeeded in arresting one IBRAHIM ABUBAKAR alias DAN BALE ‘m’ of Inwala qrts, Katsina and MUBARAK MAIFADA ‘m’ of the same address in possession of Eight (8) rolls of dried leaves reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp. 

 

“Suspects have confessed to the crime and they will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation into the case is completed.

 

“On 18/01/2018 at about 0551hrs, the Command succeeded and arrested one Nura Idris ‘m’ of Tashar Hurera qrts, Jibia who attacked one Innocent Orji ‘m’ of the same address with dangerous weapons and robbed them of money the sum of N34,000:00K and a motorcycle Suzuki black in colour valued N220,000:00k. 

 

“Police recovered the stolen motorcycle and the sum of N31,450:00k from the suspect.  He will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.

 

“On 22/01/2018 at about 18:00hrs based on a tip off, the command carried out a mop off operation at a notorious kidnappers/cattle rustlers hide out inside Ruga Bakin Daji, Gimi forest, Safana LGA of Katsina state.  The team succeeded in recovering the above mentioned weapons inside the rooms of one Asma’u Adamu ‘f’ aged 35yrs and Rakiya Abdulrashid ‘f’ aged 20yrs of Safana LGA, Katsina. 

 

“On 23/01/2018 at about 15:50hrs, the Command based on a tip off, succeeded in recovering two hundred and seventy eight thousand rounds of life ammunitions of AK 47 rifle hidden along cattle track road leading to the Dungun Sambo Dam inside a black Bagco sack.  Effort is on top gear with a view to arresting the owners.

                    

 

“On 09/02/2018 at about 17:30hrs, based on a tip off, the Command succeeded in bursting a notorious syndicate of armed robbery/kidnapping suspects.  

 

“On 30/01/2018 at about 01:00hrs, the suspects armed with AK 47 rifles and other dangerous weapons attacked the house of one Alhaji Abdulkadir Mikka ‘m’ aged 75yrs of Burma village, Funtua LGA of Katsina state, shot his son one Alhaji Rabi’u Abdulkadir ‘m’ aged 50yrs to death, robbed him of unspecified amount of money and kidnapped his son one Alhaji Mika Abdulkadir aged 30yrs ‘m’ of the same address to unknown destination. 

 

The suspects arrested are: 1. Sani Zubairu aged 38yrs, 2. Ma’aruf Lawal aged 23yrs, 3. Ibrahim Hassan ‘ aged 23yrs all ‘m’ of Burma village, Funtua LGA of Katsina state

“Suspects have confessed to the crime while effort is on the right track with a view to arresting other members of the syndicate.  Investigation into this case is still ongoing.

 

“On 6/02/2018 at about 18:30hrs, based on a tip off, the Command succeeded in arresting one Abdulsalamu Isah aged 30yrs, ‘m’ of Danmarke village Kankara LGA of Katsina state and One Ashafa Ibrahim aged 30yrs, ‘m’ of Sabon Gida, Kankara LGA of Katsina state who were planning to attack the house of one Mamuda Haruna ‘m’ of Sabon Gida, Kankara LGA of Katsina state. 

 

“Suspects confessed to the crime and other similar armed robbery attacks in Katsina.  Investigation is full gear with a view to arrest other members of their syndicate and also to recover their operational arms.

 

“On 22/02/2018 at about 22:00hrs, Police Patrol team attached to Bakori Division received a distress call that armed robbers have blocked the highway leading to Kurami Bypass road. 

 

“The team swung into action and rushed to the scene. On arrival the hoodlums engaged the team on a gun duel but the police patrol team succeeded in dislodging the bandits and arresting one Bello Anaruwa ‘m’ 40yrs of Layin Yan-Nehu BaKori LGA of Katsina state and one Musa Sani ‘m’ 25yrs of the same address.

 

Also recovered from them are:  1. One locally made pistol, 2. One Motorcycle Black, 3. Charms, 4. Two Black caps, 5. Torchlight.  Investigation is ongoing.

 

“On 27/01/2018 at about 01:00hrs, based on tip off, patrol team from Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Katsina, succeeded in arresting one Abubakar Haruna ‘m’ aged 35yrs of Illela village, Batsari LGA of Katsina state haven unlawful possession of a cut to size locally made muzzle loading fire arm. 

 

“During the course of police investigation, evidence had it that, he belongs to a notorious syndicate armed robbers terrorizing Batsari and Safana LGAs of Katsina state.

 

“On 28/02/2018 at about 22:15hrs, based on a tip off, Police patrol team attached to Kankara Division raided a black spot at Doroyi/Unguwar Doka, Faskari and arrested 1. one Ya’u Mallam Rabi’u ‘m’ aged 25yrs and 2. one Abdulkarim Rabi’u aged 27rs all of Sabon Layin Galadima village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state with AK 47 rifle with Breach No.051477610 and four Magazines and Seventy (70) rounds of 7.62mm of live ammunition. Also, 21 rounds of 7.65mm of Brownie Pistol ammunition without the Pistol. 

 

“On 16/02/2018 at about 21:00hrs, the Command succeeded in arresting one Ayuba Adamu ‘m’ aged 20yrs of Tsiga village, Bakori LGA of Katsina state whom with others at large attacked the house of one Sarawiya Tasiu ‘f’ of Sabon Anguwa village, Dandume LGA of Katsina state, took her away to an uncompleted building, raped her and robbed her of handset Techno valued N10,000:00k.
