Customs board confirms 4 Deputy Comptrollers, 1,997 promotions

The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has confirmed the appointments of four members of the management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and approved the promotion of 1,997 senior officers at its first meeting held last Thursday.

A statement by the PRO, Joseph Attah, said the meeting which was presided by the Minister of Finance and chairman of the board, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, considered the yardsticks for the promotion.

The yardstick included the cumulative scores of annual evaluation, written examination, oral interview, seniority and availability of vacancies, before approving those most eligible for the promotion from January 1, 2017.

Shortly after the meeting held at the ministry, the newly confirmed members of NCS management were decorated in the Comptroller-General‘s office.

They are Deputy Comptroller General (DCG), Talatu Isa Mairo (Tariff and Trade); ACG, David Elijah Chikan (HRD; ACG, Ibrahim Yakubu Maikarfi (FATS); and ACG, Ali Bukar Amajam (E, I & I).

A breakdown of those promoted shows: 49 Deputy Comptrollers to Comptrollers of Customs; 52 Assistant Comptrollers promoted to Deputy Comptrollers of Customs; and 33 Chief Superintendents who rose to Assistant Comptrollers of Customs.

Others include 370 Chief Superintendents of Customs, 372 Superintendents of Customs, 452 Deputy Superintendents of Customs, and 380 Assistant Superintendents of Customs II among others. 

While decorating the confirmed members of Management, the CGC, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd), charged them and the newly promoted officers to see their elevations as a call to higher duties. 

He told them to recommit themselves to the course of service delivery and build on the gains of the on-going reforms in the Service.
