Customs Impound Bullet Proof Vehicles in Abuja; Seize 265 Exotic Cars in 2-Months-Hameed Ali.

Authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in Abuja have ordered the seizure of 13 bullet proof exotic cars allegedly smuggled into the country by an Abuja-based car dealer.

They are among 18 exotic cars seized from the car dealer.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali who made the disclosure in Abuja said the importer did not obtain clearance from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, before the importation.

is words, “On Saturday, September 16, 2017, based on credible information, the detachment of the Compliance Team visited Kefiano Motors Limited in the Central Business Area of Abuja and discovered 18 suspected smuggled exotic vehicles that were displayed for sale.”

Ali said with the 18 seized by his men, the NCS has impounded 265 smuggled cars in the last two months.

The 18 cars seized from the Abuja car dealer on Saturday are a Tools Royce, 2 Range Rover, 4 Lexus, 3 G-Wagon, 2 Toyota Prado SUVs , a Lincon Navigator, a Infinity, a 4matic, 2 Toyota Sequoia and a Toyota Camry.

The C-G said the importer, who claimed to have genuine documents to prove he paid the required duties, had been asked to present them for verification.

He said failure to make good his claims would lead to his arrest and prosecution.

ONSA certificates are to be issued for such Controlled items as arms and ammunition of all kinds (lethal and non-lethal); all forms of bullet proof materials, including vehicles, vests, ballistic materials and bullion vans among others.

End User Certificates are issued to prevent such items from being diverted within the buyer country or re-exported under undesirable conditions to prevent items finding their ways into illicit market.
