Delta Police Smash Kidnap Gang Terrorizing Sapele, Ozoro; Arrest 8 Gang Members.

In furtherance of its determination to rid Delta State of the menace of Kidnapping for ransom, the Police in Delta State have smashed a notorious kidnapping gang and arrested 8 of the gang members in Warri and other parts of the state.

A statement from the Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Ibrahim titled ‘Arrest of Notorious Kidnappers/Recovery of Arms and Ammunition, gave details of the arrests as follow, “The Police acting on the strenght of confession made by 6 members of a notorious kidnappers currently in custody, swung into action to arrest other members of the gang and raid their hideouts with a view to recover their arms and ammunition.

The 6 members in police custody are Shebbo Sunday OMAJENE, Moses PENDER, Ifeanyi UGEGE, Godwin LUCKY, Mathew URHOBOTIE, and Godwin OKWESIRI.

The statement said, “On Thursday 17th August 2017, at about 5.30pm, a team of SAKCCS, Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Operatives led by ASP Amos Samuel, with the aid of the above mentioned 6 suspects (Kidnappers), effected  two additional gang members.

The two kidnappers are James ANTHONY 24yrs of Amukpe Area of Sapele and Phillip OMAMUDE  20yrs of Bih Market area Ozoro. Both were arrested at various axis of Warri and a Barretta Pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition recovered from the suspects.

The suspects however sustained gunshot injuries when they engaged the Police in a shootout in an attempt to prevent the police invading their hideouts and to escape.

The Police added that the suspects are currently leading the SAKCCS team to their hideouts for possible arrests of other fleeing gang members and recovery of remaining arms and ammunition as well as confessed.
