In its determined efforts at getting to the root of criminality and violence in Delta state, operatives of the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have arrested several persons engaged in the manufacture of locally made guns for robbery kingpins.
One of the suspects, Edwin Udeke, a 66 year old man was arrested at about 8.45pm at Irri Community in Isoko on Saturday 13th, May 2017 following a tip off as he was engaged in manufacturing illegal locally made guns.
During a search on the premises, the following items were recovered-one locally made Single Barrel gun, one locally made pistol, other gun accessories.
Another illegal arms manufacturer, 55 year old Ajosy Okwunobor was arrested on Wednesday 17th of May at about 11.35pm by SARs operatives following a tip off in Imbiri in Ika East Local Government Area.
Items recovered from Okwunobor include 6 drilling machines, 1 filing machine, 2 locally made grips some trigger guards, cartridge injector, gun board, hand saw, other gun parts.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects who participated in the killing of late Area Commander, Ughelli, ACP Usman Ndabambo has been arrested by the police.
In a statement titled ‘Arrest of suspected armed robber, kidnapper/murderer’ the police said, “On Tuesday 23rd May 2017, at about 8.25pm Police acting on a tip off arrested one Obudogho Felix aged 35 years, staff of Jao Catering Services, EGTL, Escravos, Delta in connection with the killing of late ACP Usman Ndabanbo, Area Commander, Ughelli, Delta state.
“Suspects are being interrogated. Investigation ongoing”
Recall that ACP Ndabambo was killed on Sunday 7th May 2017 in Ughelli.
