The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) on Wednesday 3 April, 2019 donated food items and relief materials to School for the Deaf in Kuje, Abuja, as part of activities marking the Association’s 2019 annual week celebration.

The DEPOWA President, Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin, while presenting the items to the School, noted that the gesture was aimed at supporting the School with the needed learning aids and other relief materials in a bid to support the educational development of the vulnerable and physically challenged children.

The DEPOWA President stated that aside the donations, the visit of DEPOWA members to the school was to motivate and encourage the students, noting that identifying with them will psychologically propel them to succeed in life.

Mrs Olonisakin further spoke on societal values, where she called on other learning and religious institutions to support government and parents towards promoting healthy societal growth.

The DEPOWA President pledged her Association’s continuous collaboration with the School by taking proactive measures to enable the children fulfil their dreams and aspirations in line with its organisational goal to assist children within and outside the barracks communities to become useful members of the society.

Responding to the gesture, the School’s Vice Principal, Mrs Goodness Johnson described the benevolence by DEPOWA as a “breath of succour” to the children in particular and the school at large.

Mrs Johnson expressed the school’s appreciation to the DEPOWA for its unflinching supports towards the growth of the school, while thanking the DEPOWA President for the motherly affection extended to the physically challenged students over the years.

The Vice Principal later conducted the DEPOWA President and other members of her entourage round the school. Items donated by DEPOWA include: food stuff, mattresses, Hair clippers, Hair-dryers and industrial sewing machines.
