The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) President, Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin on Saturday April 6, 2019 played host to widows of fallen heroes and physically challenged persons at a dinner party to climax the end of this year’s DEPOWA week in Abuja.
The occasion was to honour the widows and physically challenged to socialize with DEPOWA members and other dignitaries in celebrating the 2019 DEPOWA week.
Speaking at the occasion, DEPOWA President, Mrs Olonisakin while expressing concern over the pains and agonies widows and persons with disabilities go through in life, stated that DEPOWA had organized the dinner party to honour these vulnerable groups as part of her policy to provide succor to the less privileged as part of the organization’s mandate.
Mrs Olonisakin noted that DEPOWA remains steadfast in its advocacy campaigns and welfare programmes targeted at providing support to the widows of fallen heroes and the less privileged in the society.
In her words “the expression of love and care to widows and the physically challenged in our midst could serve as means of encouragement for them to reach their goals in life”.

She noted further that with the needed support, widows and the physically challenged could also contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the country as useful members of the society.
The DEPOWA President used the occasion to urge Nigerians to assist the widows of fallen heroes to enable them cope with the challenges and responsibilities of widowhood.
Highpoint of the event, was the distribution of food items to the widows and the physically challenged, while educational materials were also presented to the Abuja School for the Blind.
Dignitaries at the occasion include, the National President of Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Umma Buratai, National President of Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs Theresa Ibas and National President, Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar.
Others are former DEPOWA Presidents, spouses of 25 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy and friends of DEPOWA.
A minute silence was also observed in honour and memory of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice for the peace, unity and progress of the nation.
