DEPOWA President, Mrs Musa Sponsors 20 Wives of Military Personnel for Mammogram Tests; Leads Several Women on Health Work Physical Fitness Exercises

The Defence and Police Officers Wves Association (DEPOWA) on Saturday held its monthly Health Walk aimed at keeping women and others in the Barrack Community fit and healthy.
This is just as the DEPOWA President, Mrs Oghogho Musa said she will sponsor 20 women from among the wives of military personnel for mammogram tests nect week to ascertain and check for possible breat cancer and early treatment.
Speaking on motivation after a walk round the Mogadishu Cantoment, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabim Musa told several women from DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA, POWA and wives of Non Commissioned Officers that walking is the best exercise to get fit while becoming aware of certain medical issues with the body.
She said, “This is the second time we. If possible, it should be done on a daily bases but it should be done at your own pace.
“When you engage in physical activities you are more productiveare going on this health walk. We ard engaging in this walk bi-monthy . We must engage in excercise.
The DEPOWA President added, “This walk is for us to have a health lifestyle. It has enabled some of our participants today to be aware of the Blood pressure status. We do a lot of things as women therefore it important we know our health status to prevent shocks and unforseen situations.
Delivering a health talk on hypertension and diabetes, Dr Mrs Promise Ogah urged the women to pay attention to their health noting that many women continue to carry on with the demands and challenges of life and forget that their physical wellbeing matters.
She said, ” I want you to know that in  Nigeria as of today, with a population of over 200million, over 76 million peop have hypertension. Many of them are not aware of it and are not doing anything about it. Please learn to keep an eye o your blood pressure status.
“The risk factos include obesity, sedentry lifestyles. Because out of every three Nigerians, one person have High Blood Pressure. Too much salt in our food causes high blood pressure, so guard against it. Physical activities is one of the ways to checkmate high blood pressure”
Regarding Diabetes, Dr Ogah said the women should guard against elevated sugar levels noting the when sugar levels are so high, it block the tissues of the bodyvfrom functioning normally leading to such risk factors as overweight, sedentry lifestyle and not being physically active.
“Over 90million Nigerians are diabetic which is even a more dangerous issue than high blood pressure. The risk factor includes stroke and heart failure. But will regular check up and physical exercises, this risk factors can be minimized or managed before it gets to something else.
