The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has today 27 April 2019 organized International Military Sports Council (CISM) Day Run for members of the Armed Forces and other Security Agencies residing within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The 6 kilometre walk/jog exercise was to celebrate the 2019 International Military Sport Council (CISM) which is an annual event that came to limelight after the end of the Second World War.
The theme for this year’s CISM Day Run ‘‘Friendship through Sport” is aimed at promoting world peace while strengthening existing bond and spirit-de-corps between military personnel and security agencies as well as fostering civil-military-relations with the general populace.

Addressing participants during the event, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans (CDPP), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Nurudeen Abiodun Balogun commended the participants for successful completion of the run, describing the level of physical fitness and high morale demonstrated by them as prerequisites for combat efficiency in the military.
The CDS who thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the unflinching support accorded security apparatus by this administration, while reiterating the commitment of the military towards tacking the security challenges facing the country.
Director of Sport, DHQ, AVM Emmanuel Wonah, while addressing journalists, disclosed that over 11 security outfits participated in the CISM Day Run.
He noted that the exercise was an opportunity for athletes and agencies to prepare for the forthcoming CDS Armed Forces and Security Agencies Half Marathon Championship.
The 6 Km walk and jog exercise kicked started at Mogadishu Cantonment to AYA to AGuriyi Ironsi Cantonment and back to Mogadishu Cantonment.
Founded on 18 February 1948, CISM is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations with a current membership of 138 countries.
The International body is task with the responsibility of organizing and coordinating military sports globally.
