In its determination to rise to current complex, complicated and dynamic security challenges occasioned by multiple simultaneous threats and contingency facing the nation, the Defence Intelligence Agency has acquired a modern, state of the art Geo-Spatial Intelligence Analysis Centre with capability of analyzing aerial, land and sea imagery for precision operational offensive and defensive missions.
Aside aerial imagery, the multipurpose geospatial Centre has capability to gather ISR intelligence and information for aircraft missions in the war against terrorism and bandits location, movement and storage facilities even in dense forests.
Inaugurating the Centre at the headquarters, Defence Intelligence Agency on Monday 10th June 2019, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar expressed delight at the high calibre geospatial centre noting that it will seriously boost intelligence and information gathering that will assist NAF air operations against terrorists and other security threats as well as efforts of sister security agencies to keep the nation safe from all forms of criminals.
Other facilities inaugurated by the Chief of Air Marshal Abubakar were the new Centre for Strategic Studies at the DIA Intelligence School at Karu comprising a 2-story building with lecture theatres, fully furnished library and computer center.
There was also the remodelled entrance gate with state of the art access control and monitoring/scanning devices to detect and intercept any sort of security breach into the Agency.
It boost an architectural masterpiece comparable to any such facility anywhere in the world.
Furthermore, a remodelled, expanded and well equipped hospital complex was inaugurated by the CAS even as he pointed out that the commissioned projects were key necessities and value chain additions towards attaining the implementation of National Security objectives.
The CAS said, “The completion and commissioning of these projects are timely considering the ever changing security threats that are emerging. These facilities will go a long way to enhance activities of the agency in support of National Security goals.

“DIA has helped us a lot with actionable intelligence and information that has assisted us in several operational objectives and in the massively degrading terrorists hideouts and logistics bases.
He commended the upgrade and expansion of the DIA hospital recalling the several intervention of the hospital when NAF pilots have had to be moved to there for treatment, particularly the crash of F-7Ni fighter jet in August 2018, during rehearsals for Nigeria’s independence anniversary celebration.
The CAS also commended the CDI for the many innovations and upgrade in terms of facilities, personnel welfare and training that has impacted in most of the Defence Missions abroad noting the he was in South Africa, the U K, and the USA on working visits where he noted the upgrade of facilities, all due to the CDI’s knack for value addition to DIA.
In his address, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Sani Usman said construction of the projects was inspired by the need to make the Agency more responsive and effective in its contribution through promotion of innovation and radical thought in an environment that is conducive and encouraging.
“Concurrently, we are building the right capacity for our personnel to deliver on their assigned responsibilities while also enacting a platform of capabilities, utilizing cutting edge technology”.
AVM Usman said, “When I assumed office as the Chief of Defence Intelligence, we determined that a unique opportunity exist for us to transform our agency into a top rank defence intelligence enterprise that is able to effectively execute its mandate of providing strategic, operational and tactical Defence intelligence with clear decision advantages to enable compelling action in today’s complex, complicated and dynamic defence and security landscape that is defined by multiple simultaneous threats and contingencies.
” Inspired by the achievements of my predecessors, I am priviledged to report today that we have made significant strides in all areas of focus.”
Present at the occasion were former Chiefs of Defence Intelligence including retired Major General Halidu Giwa, Air Vice Marshal Jon Ode (rtd) who represented Lt. General Aliyu Gusau (rtd) and Senator Isa Maina.
