Opportunities for skill acquisition would soon be open to graduates in Edo as the State government promised, on Wednesday, to launch platforms on technical education for graduates to become independent employers of labour.
This was disclosed by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, at the Edo State Government House in Benin City during an interactive session with the management team of Seven Up Bottling Company Nigeria Plc, led by Victor Oladele, the General Manager of Seven Up Bottling Company Nigeria Plc. Benin zone, who expressed interest in partnering to make Edo state an economic hub
The management team also applauded the leadership style of the present administration, especially its policies aimed at encouraging investors in the state.
The governor explained that his administration was determined to create an enabling environment for investors through infrastructural development such as roads to enhance free flow of vehicular movement, and security of lives and property to attract investors to the state.
In addition, he revealed that the state government would remain sensitive to the affairs of the company by ensuring that an atmosphere of peace was created with its host communities for businesses to thrive and facilitate access to about 20 million people from the neighbouring states.
Furthermore, he said his administration would show commitment and a support for the company’s interests so long as the company identified the key areas the state government could come in.
Meanwhile, in recognition of his contribution to journalism and media relations, the interim Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Edo State Governor, Mr. John Mayaki, was, on Wednesday, awarded the “International Diaspora Icon of Peace, Patriotism and National Development” by the European Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Cyprus.

Mayaki told NANS, “You have tasked me to climb another rung on the ladder of leadership responsibility and service to humankind. You have clearly encouraged me not to rest on my oars in giving more of myself and resources to the continual wellness of our society. The challenge, I assure you, is well taken.”
Exhorting the students, he advised them to study to contribute to the uplifting of Nigeria and humanity in general urging them to never be satisfied with whatever is less than excellent because there was no place for the slothful, the mediocre, the laggard, and the uncreative minds in the country anymore.
He expressed his resolve to contribute to the progress of Nigerian youths, while charging them to develop their intellects and broaden their scope because the project of nation building in Nigeria was direly in need of innovative, progressive, diligent, and bright young minds.
“To handle your study with levity is to disqualify yourself from being part of the hands and minds that are building our country. Always remember this and see to it that you do not sidestep challenges in the course of studies but manfully face up to them, knowing full well that giving up is not an option for the youth who seek to better their country,” he said.
He assured them that under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s watch, education and jobs for the youths would never be relegated, adding that the current administration had developed policies and programmes to add value to people’s lives and would improve educational infrastructure in the state.
In addition, he explained that Governor Obaseki would use agriculture to close up the gap in youth unemployment in the state, as the government was already engaging many youths in the various areas of the state’s agribusiness programme.
