Former Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase (rtd), has been appointed Chairman of the Task Force on Public Property Protection (PPP) Edo State by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
With the appointment, Arase who is a doctorate degree holder in Law is to service the enforcement of the Community Development Association laws of Edo State recently passed by the Edo State House of Assembly.
Speaking while inaugurating the Committee in Benin, the governor reiterated that activities of the CDAs in recent past, caused great anxiety to the government as they almost destroyed the peace and stability being enjoyed by Edo people.
He urged the Arase committee to firm and not to spare anyone caught flouting the Community Development Associations (CDA) laws.
Obasaki’s who as Chairman of the Edo State Economic forum ender former Governor Adams Oshiomole experienced the negative implications of the CDAs, said, “The activities activities of these CDAs retarded economic growth and development in communities and our state in general.
“They flagrantly disregarded rule of law so as to achieve their selfish interests.
“So this task force on Private Property Protection, PPP law, is set up to enforce the CDA law because this is one of the provisions enshrined in the CDA law.
Apart from enforcing the CDA law, monitoring the CDAs and other group activities, the Arase committee was charged with responsibility of ensuring compliance with the provisions of the law prohibiting CDAs and other groups from selling landed property or collecting any related fees or levies.
The committee is also to assist in apprehending or direct to security agencies for arrest, any person or persons found contravening the law.
Responding after the inauguration, Dr. Arase assured the governor the task will ensure its purpose of promulgating the law is achieved.
He used the occasion to appreciate the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II for his passion and love for the people of Edo State through his backing of the prohibition of the activities of the CDAs. Â Â Â Â
