Expect ‘Accolades’ only after performance; keep Pace with Obaseki – Duke charges Edo Cabinet.

Former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke, has challenged the recently constituted Edo State Executive Council to perform assiduously and live up to expectation saying the entire nation had great expectations from the state.

Duke gave the challenge just as he drummed it into the appointees of Governor Godwin Obaseki that they should only expect accolades from Edo citizens if they successfully deliver on the assignments given them by the government.

Speaking as Guest speaking at the 2017 Edo State Executive Council Retreat, which held in Lagos on Sunday night, the former Cross Rivers state governor noted that the pedigree of Governor Obaseki, had caused Nigerians to raise the bar of expectation for the state.

He therefore urged the new cabinet to ensure that it kept pace with the governor in terms of competence in the dispensation of duties.

He insisted that it was not time to congratulate any of the governor’s appointees, noting that there would be time for that and it would come naturally as performance would speak for itself.

He further urged the cabinet members to ensure they understood the vision of the administration, and to be astute at selling same to Edo citizens.

Duke added that the Obaseki government would only succeed if people keyed in, and adopted the administration’s objectives.

Furthermore, he encouraged the council members to remain modest and accessible to the people they governed, adding that they would not succeed if they remained aloof.

The former governor identified passion for work to meet the state’s objectives as one of the most essential requirements for success.

He also called on the state’s executives to be persistent in their pursuit of the goals of the government.
