FCT Police Smash Criminal Gangs; Nab 40 Armed Robbers, ATM Robbers, Car Snatchers & Cultists; Recover 78 Prohibited Arms, 222 Live Cartridges.

The FCT Police Command on Wednesday paraded 40 armed robbery, ATM robbery, Car snatching gangs and cultists arrested in Abuja between December 2017 and March 2918.

After the operations leading to the arrests of the suspects, the Police recovered eleven (11) stolen vehicles, 8 fabricated locally made pistols, several ammunition, 9 stolen Flat Screen TV Sets, Desktop monitor, 3 knives and a toy gun.

Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello who made the disclosures in Abuja at a briefing, stated that two of the robbery suspects Samuel Jatau and Emmanuel Friday were arrested after they robbed a lady of a Toyota Camry 2007 model and ATM cards which they used to withdraw money from the victim’s account.

“In the course of the investigation, Friday was identified as the reciever. His arrest led to recovery of 6 other roobed cars that were sold at Uyo and Port Harcourt”.

The CP listed exhibits recovered from the robbers as a locally made revolver pistol, one live ammunition, one arsh-colour Lexus Jeep, one wine-colour Honda CRV, Green colour Toyota Camry 2000 model, a black Honda V-6 and another Green colour Toyota Camry.

In another operation, Police operatives on Stop and Search arrested 3 armed robbery suspects that were in a Taxi, two locally made pistols were recovered from them and one 7.65 mm live ammunition.

The 3 suspects, Tersor Moga, Usama Tijjani and Samuel Ezra were arrested on their way to Wuse for a robbery operation. The revelation of these suspects led to the arrest of Musa Muhammed Sani and Abubakar Muktar as the recievers.

Furthermore, the Police in a stop and search operation at Wuye, by Airport Road, intercepted 3 members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity Cult who were returning to Apo after their cult meeting at Lugbe.

During a search conducted on the suspects, 3 locally made pistols, one cartridge and 2 sharp knives were recovered.

The suspects are Sunday Ogbodo, Chukwudi Peter and Joseph Nwali.

The command also smashed and arrested members of a house-breaking syndicate that broke into Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCCG) at Mabushi on 28 February, 2018 and stole 5 Plasma TV sets, 2 cameras and wall fans.

Discreet investigation launched, led to the arrest of 3 suspects and recievers namely-Munir Abdullahi, Hayatu Yau, Mohammed Isah, Abba Bashir and Salisu Muhammed.

Exhibits recovered fron the recievers are 9 flat screen TV sets and one desktop computer.   

Also, in furtherance of the directive to Police Commands to retrieve al prohibited arms and ammunition from owners of illegal arms, the FCT Police Command disclosed on Wednesday that it had recovered a total of 79 guns and 222 live cartridges which were voluntarily submitted.

The CP said, Most of the firearms were and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered to the command headquarters following robust media campaign and meeting with stakeholders in the 5 Area Commands of the FCT.

Bello added that “In view of the expiration of the period approved by the IGP for voluntary submission of the prohibited firearms, the Command will commence the mop-up exercise which will include raids, cordon and search of premises or buildings or hideouts where these illegal/prohibited firearms are reasonable suspected to be kept”.

“As such, any individual or group of persons found in possession of any prohibited firearms henceforth, will be arrested and prosecuted.”
