FCT Police Smash One Chance Robbery Gangs; Several Armed Robbery Operations foiled; 22 suspects arrested.

The Police in the Federal Capital Territory has smashed several ‘One Chance Robbery Gangs’ terrorizing commuter users in Abuja with the arrest of eight members while several operational vehicles used for their operations were recovered.

Aside the one chance robbers, the Command in several other operations, arrested armed robbery suspects with arms, electricity cable vandals and suspected murderers.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, DCP Salisu Gyadi-Gyadi said the arrests were made possible by the proactive crime fighting measures deployed by the Command and the support of public, spirited individuals who have been partnering with the Police, through the provision of information that has led to the arrest of the notorious criminals.

On the One Chance Robbery Gangs & Recovery of their operational vehicles, he said, “As part of the renewed commitment by the Command to rid FCT of the activities of one chance robbers, the Command newly created Anti One Chance Squad which is headed by a Chief Superintendent of Police smashed three notorious one chance robbery gangs and recovered their operational vehicles.

“The suspects were arrested on 6th and 7th September, 2018 at Akaraka Gosa and Nyanya axis.

“They include: Michael Okafor 27 years old, Ogbonna Nwovu 28 years old, Julius Uche 38 years old, Ike Ugwuke 36 years old, Christian Nwite 28 years old, Lucky Nwakona 22 years old and Joy Hagba ‘f’ 34 years old.

“The exhibits recovered from them includes, one ash coloured Ford car with reg. no. EL 461 LSD, one blue Golf with reg. no. KUJ 367 TV, one Nissan Almera and some well-trimmed papers.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.

“Similarly, the Anti-one Chance Squad on 11th September, 2018 at about 3pm, acting on a tip off arrested one Tijjani Omeka 25 years, a taxi driver who parades himself as an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

“The suspect who often poses as Corporal Tijjani to defraud unsuspecting members of the public was arrested at Nyanya, Gwagwalape phase 1 after a sting operation.

“The following items were recovered from him as exhibits; one black face cap with SARS inscription and a walkie-talkie. He will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.

“On 4th September, 2018 at about 10am, Police operative on a discreet investigation arrested one Emmanuel Nwori a taxi operative in connection with the gruesome murder of one Umo Monday who boarded his taxi as passenger.

“The suspect who confessed to be operating along with members of his gang in a taxi suddenly noted that the deceased was shot by a member of the gang while struggling with then in the moving car.

“They took away his phone and dumped away the remains at Federal Housing flyover, Kubwa. Investigation is on-going.

“On 22nd August, 2018 following a tip-off, Police Operatives arrested three armed robbery suspects namely; Aliyu Ahmed 20 years old, Bala Mohammed 25 years old and Abdulraham Mohammed 19 years old who specialize in using firearms and dangerous weapon to rob residential houses.

“The suspects attacked and robbed the victim of her three phones at her resident located at Kugbo.

“The following exhibits were recovered from them; one double barrel, one Dane gun, two live cartridges, two cutlasses, four knives, six wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one bottle of codeine syrup, three touch lights, one iron cutter, one axe and some charms.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court after investigation.”

On 22nd August, 2018 at about 12 noon, Police Operatives on Patrol at Karimo market acting on reasonable suspicion arrested one Bala Aliyu 20 years old with a bag containing one Locally made Pistol.

The firearm was discovered in the bag after the vigilant policemen carried out a search on it. The suspect will be arraigned in court when investigation is concluded.

On 19th August, 2018 at about 2119 hrs, one Bashiru Yunusa 20 years old of Angwan Gwari was arrested by Operative while trying to escape after robbing a Pharmaceutical store at Kuje.

The suspect with his cohort who are now at large, armed with cutlass attacked the store owner and robbed him of his phone and cash recovered from his sales for the day.

One cutlass was recovered from the suspect as exhibit. The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.

On 1st September, 2018 at about 0400hrs, Police Operatives acting on tip-off arrested one Emmanuel Ayuba 36 years at City Scape Villa Estate Games Village with thirty eight (38) yards of armoured cables that were vandalized from the estate.

One hack saw and pinches were recovered from him as exhibits. Efforts now intensified to arrest the receiver of the stolen cables
Similarly, on 7th September, 2018, one Badmusi Ibrahim 19 years old was arrested by Police Operatives for vandalizing armoured cable along airport road.

Exhibits recovered from him are; one Cutlass and one hard saw. Both suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.

On 4th July, 2018 Police Operatives while responding to distress call along Kubwa expressway arrested one David John 28 years and Anthony Uke 25 years while trying to escape after a failed attempt to snatch a car from its owner.

The suspect specializes in attacking their victims with knife. Two kitchen knives and an ash coloured Nissan car were recovered from the suspects as exhibits. They will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.

On 3rd September, 2018 at about 2000hrs while responding to distress call at Angwan wakili Dei-Dei, Police Operatives arrested one Juniadu Rabiu 29 years old and Ibrahim Shehu 35 years old while trying to escape after breaking into a Church and stole one Amplifier, 2 Microphone and 5 Plastic Chairs.

The suspects also attacked and robbed a lady of her phone at the same location.
One scissors, one harmer and charms were recovered from them as exhibits and they will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.
