FOC Central Command at NNS Delta, Charges Officers Safety of Maritime Domain

The Nigerian Navy has been called upon to ensure the safety of Nigerian waters and national assets contained there-in while embracing ideology in executing the mandate of the Chief of Naval Staff.

Rear Admiral Mohammed Garba, outgoing Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Central Naval Command gave the charge in Warri, during his passing out parade hosted by the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Delta.

Rear Admiral Garba disclosed that constructive engagement with the people was critical in checkmating oil theft and other illegalities in Niger Delta.

His words, “Ideological warfare is not the people who win by weapons but those who win by ideas, so, offering advice to the people is important.

“For all of us at higher level of the Command, we should be able to translate national policies in a way that will be able to shape, reshape and understand the environment so that we will able to direct our tactical actions”.

Garba commended officers and ratings of his command for achieving a lot in its mandate of providing security in the maritime space, attributing the feat to coordinated strategies of appeasement, constructive engagement and application of kinetic means.

“I urge you to remain discipline and dedicate yourself toward ensuring the continuous safety and security of the maritime environment in the Command.

 “I also charge you to ensure freedom of the sea and waterways that would contribute to the economic prosperity of the nation as contained in the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Strategic Directives”, he added.

He implored men and officers to support the incoming FOC, Rear Admiral Abubakar Alhassan just as he commended the traditional rulers, States and Local governments for their unflinching support.

The event was attended by Commodore Ibrahim Dewu, Commander, NNS DELTA, Col. Alhassan Grema, Commander, Sector 1, Operation Delta Safe, and other top security officers from the Army, Air Force and Police.
