Force Commander MNJTF, Major General LEO Irabor Tours Operational Commands in Sector 1; Declares Boko Haram is on Downward Trend but urges Alertness.

The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force fighting to clear out Boko Haram terrorism and insecurity in the Lake Chad Basin Commission Countries, Major General Lucky Irabor has declared that “Boko Haram is on the downward trend and we (troops) must ensure its eradication”.

Speaking when he paid an operational visit to Sector 1, of the task force in Mora – Cameroon, General Irabor charged troops of Cameroon, Niger, Chad and their Nigerian counterparts, to be resilient and unyielding noting that Criminality (Which Boko Haram represents) has no friend in whatever form.

Giving detail of the visit, Colonel Mustapha Anka, Public Relations Officer, MNJTF said, “On arrival at Mora, the FC and his entourage were received by the Commander Sector 1 Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo who presented a detailed brief on the activities, achievements and prospects of the formation in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

In his response, the FC thanked General Bouba and his troop for the warm reception and detailed brief. He expressed happiness at the achievements and successes recorded by the formation and promised to give necessary support to the command.

General Irabor used the medium to appreciate the President of the Republic of Cameroon Paul Biya and other Presidents of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) countries and Benin for their commitment, determination and purposeful leadership towards ensuring peace and security in the region.

He also commiserated with the Sector for the souls of those that paid the supreme sacrifice and wounded during the fight against terrorism.

“I am glad that schools have reopened” he said, and commended the alertness of our troops, reminding them not to assume and remain doing nothing to avoid surprise ambushes.

While in Mora, the FC paid a courtesy call to the Senior Divisional Officer and was received by the Secretary General on behalf of the Divisional Officer.

In his welcome remarks the Secretary General welcomed the FC and commended General Bouba and his team for their excellent performance while urging them to keep up the spirit saying, “We have a very good collaboration with Sector 1 of the MNJTF and need to intensify the security of our common borders”.

On his part, General Irabor thanked the secretary General for the warm reception accorded to him and his team emphasizing that “Insurgency requires contributions of other agencies in order to maintain peace, security and harmony in our countries”.

During the visit to Mora, the FC visited 1st Battalion (sub Sector South) and had a brief stopover at 152nd Nigerian battalion in Banki, where he was welcomed and briefed by the Commanding Officer of the unit Lieutenant Colonel Peter Elajo.

The FC in company of Commander Sector 1 and other officers witnessed a training session on Anti-Ambush drill being organized for the troops of the Sector.

Similarly, General Irabor proceeded to Maroua and paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the Far North Region.

While at the Governor’s office, he was received by the Secretary General of the Service of the Governor of the region who welcomed General Irabor on behalf of the Governor and good people of the region.

The Governor said that the region enjoys a very cordial relation with Sector 1 and also commended General Bouba and his men for sinking of boreholes and provision of teachers to teach children in some the schools worthy to mention.

In his response the FC appreciated the Governor and his cabinet for the warm reception accorded to him.

General Irabor stated that he is in Maroua on operational visit to interact and motive the troops.

He thanked the Governor for the unflinching support, cooperation and cordial relationship given to Sector 1 of the MNJTF. “Criminality has no friend in whatever form. Boko Haram is in the downward trend and we must ensure its eradication” General Irabor added.

The FC paid similar visits to 4th Joint Headquarters, Operation Emergence 4, and Operation Alfa respectively.

During the visits, General Irabor was given detailed briefs on the activities of the formations, their determination to rout insurgency and future plans.

While in Maroua, he addressed troops in different locations. In his address, General Irabor appreciated troops’ efforts, resilience and determination in the fight against terrorism.

He added that he was in Sector 1 Area of Operation to motivate them as serious minded troops and stressed the importance of joint efforts approach and collaboration.

During the visits, the FC was in company of Brigadier General Njonkep Frederick, Commander 4th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo, Commander Sector 1 MNJTF, Brigadier General Toungue Elias, Commander 4th Gendarmerie Region, Brigadier General Blama Assoualaye, Commander 41st Brigade and Col Dourai, Commander Alfa Operation Salak.

The FC was equally accompanied by some Chiefs of Cells from the HQ MNJTF which includes: Colonels Garandi Dagachene, Ndongo Assaje, Oumar Doro, Lossitode Gilbert and Mustapha Anka amongst others.
