Gallant Troops in Land & Air Offensive neutralize 31 Boko Haram terrorists, destroy 11 Gun Trucks in Askira Uba, Borno

Gallant troops of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Airforce in a joint offensive, on Wednesday repelled a massive invasion by Boko Haram terrorists who attacked Askira Uba town in Borno in 11 Gun trucks.

At the end of the over 3 hours encounter, 31 Boko Haram terrorists were killed by the military while the eleven gun trucks which carried the BHTs  into Askira Uba, were destroyed.

Military sources said the Nigerian airforce (NAF) aircraft shelled the Boko Haram gun trucks, while the ground troops pursued fleeing terrorists for elimination.

The source said that mobile task teams of the Army were very active in eliminating the heavily armed terrorists seen on sight while troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, headquartered in Chibok local government played a major role in searching and tracing the terrorists to their hideouts and clearing them.

“NAF attack Aircraft were scrambled from Yola and Maiduguri within minutes after ground troops sent the signals and fior the first time in years, the speed of response and coordination between the Air Task Force and Ground Toops was unprecedented,” the source said.

On Thursday, Senator Ali Ndume from Borno State and Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume commended the renewed vigour, and fighting spirit of troops, in recent weeks.

He said: “I commend the efforts of the men of the Armed Forces which has now given the people confidence that when they hear any information and contact the Army, they would come to their aid.

 “The military operation in Askira Uba was professionally executed as there was no loss of lives or property of the indigenes except the killings of the insurgents that attacked the town.”
