Recall that following the refusal of former President Yaya Jammeh to relinquish power on January 19, 2017, after losing elections to Adama Barrow, the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), deployed troops in the country to enforce an ECOWAS mandate to chase out Jammeh.
