The German Government on Monday donated three Hilux vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force as part of its support to improve capacity at Police training institutions.
German ambassador to Nigeria, Bernard Schlagegg said the vehicles are particularly donated to the police training schools to boost training capacity.
Speaking with journalists while donating the vehicles to the Police, the ambassador Schlagegg, said the gesture was a continuation of its pledge to assist the police enhance training of its personnel in training institutions.
“What we are doing particularly is capacity building and empowerment through training. We are supporting the police in the area of training.
“We enjoy a very good relationship with the Nigeria Police, particularly since the past two years. We are out to increase the capacity and empowerment of Nigeria Police Force.
“We are very interested in ensuring that the police have the needed training. We are very happy that the Nigeria Police is willing to accept our assistance,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, applauded the German government for the support describing the donation as a greatly welcomed.
The IGP said: “We are here today to celebrate the show of partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and Germany. You can see that the GIZ is one of their companies here that has been supporting the Nigeria Police Force for a long period of time.
“What they are doing here today is the donation of three Hilux vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force to be particularly targeted at the Police training institutions to enable us does our training programmes in an effective manner.”
Idris further called on other foreign partners, well-meaning organizations and government agencies within the country to support the Nigeria Police Force to enable it perform its constitutions duties efficiently.
“The Nigeria Police Force is a big organization, we are over 300,000 spread all over the length and breadth of Nigeria. We need support from our foreign partners, friends and agencies of government in Nigeria,” he reiterated.
