GOC 82 Div Flags off Army’s Inter Brigade Warrant Officer’s & Senior NCO’s Competition

The General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adamu Baba Abubakar  on Monday, 23rd of July 2018 declared open the 2018, 82 Division Inter Brigade Warrant Officers (WOs) and Senior Non Commission Officers (SNCOs) Competition.

The event is currently ongoing at the Garrison Parade Ground, Abakpa Cantonment Enugu.

In his remarks at the occasion, General Abubakar reminded the participants that the competition is an annual event, has been held for over 15 years in all the Nigerian Army Formations across the nation.

“The competition is aimed at effective training in warfare dynamics, battle maneuvers and enhancing/ improving the physical fitness, leadership traits, discipline, cooperation and spirit-de-corps amongst SNCOs who are the bridge between the soldiers and officers of the Nigerian Army (NA)”, Abubakar stated.

Similarly he said the present security situation facing the country requires constant strategic, operational preparedness by army units and formations across the nation.

“Hence, it is imperative for the NA to regularly engage their officers and men in training and retraining in order to maintain sound, mental and physical readiness at all times to effectively tackle the hybrid security challenges in line with the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Yusuf Tukur Buratai’s vision which is “to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles”.

Participants at the competition will be tested on weapons handling/firing, combat swimming, obstacle crossing, map reading and drill competition. 

 The Army’s 13, 14 and 34 Brigades from Calabar, Ohafia and Owerri as well as the 82 Division Garrison are participating in the competition.

A statement by Colonel Sagir Musa, Deputy Director Public Relations said the event will last from 23 to 26 July 2018.

He said the Commanders of 13, 14 and 34 Brigades graced the occasion.

 Others are the Commander 54 Signal Brigade Brig Gen L.A. Lawoyin, Garrison Commander 82 Division Brig Gen Lasisi Adegboye, Commissioner of Police Enugu State Alhaji Mohammed Danmallam as well as the representatives of Comptrollers of immigration, Customs, Federal Road Safety and Civil Defence Corps serving in Enugu State.
