The General Officer Commanding 82 Division (GOC) Nigerian Army, Major General Adamu Baba Abubakar, on Tuesday undertook a working visit to 130 Battalion and 341 Artillery Regiment Ogoja.
The two Units are co-located at the Brigadier General Godwin Ally (rtd) Cantonment sited at the outskirt of Ogoja town, Ogoja Local Government area of Cross River State.
The GOC was accompanied on the visit by the Commanders 13 Brigade Calabar and 44 Engineer Brigade, – Brigadier Generals Bulama Biu and Mark Mamman respectively.
The GOC and his team were received by the Commanding Officers of the Units Lieutenant Colonels Usman Ahmad and Mohammed Murtala Idris who separately briefed him on the operational readiness and challenges of the Units.
Thereafter, General Abubakar was conducted round the Administrative Headquarters and the Soldiers’ Living Accommodation where he inspected ongoing renovation project of some soldiers’ Quarters.
While at the reconstruction sites, General Abubakar was briefed and conducted round the locations by the site engineers.
He expressed near satisfaction on the level of work done so far and strongly charged them to wake up to the task so as to be able to successfully finish the works in good time.

“Our soldiers and their families, at least, deserve some level of comfort and so some of the lapses we pointed out here, such as inferior materials used in some places, low quality paints, replacement of broken pipes and iron rails must be replaced immediately,” General Abubakar directed.
He further urged the engineers/contractors to redouble their efforts with the view to completing the project soonest.
“I want you to know that this project is dear to the Chief of Army Staff Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, and I am aware you have been almost totally financially settled to do this job.
“I am finding it hard to appreciate the slow pace of work and the use of substandard materials in some areas. I, therefore, charged you to do all that you could do to complete the job on or before 10 May 2017 when I will visit here again”- the GOC stated.
Similarly, the GOC used the opportunity of the visit to inspect the ongoing construction of armoury and facelift of Headquarters 130 Battalion. He commended the Commanding Officer for the initiative and urged him to do more.
“This is the era of business unusual, so, anywhere one finds himself, must leave behind a positive legacy. This is the thinking of the Army leadership and we must key into it” the GOC charged the officer.
