Goniri Attack: Buratai visits, commends troops for pounding Boko Haram; charges troops to take battle to terrorists enclave.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai on Wednesday paid an operational visit to troops of 120 battalion in Goniri, commending them for decisively dealing with Boko Haram and recovering arms/ammunition during an attack on their location.
Recall that the terrorists launched the attack with 7 gun trucks and other sophisticated weapons including Anti Aircraft guns and General Purpose Machine Gun.
Yhe COAS who was represented by the Theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Benson Akinrolunyo said ” I am here to convey to you the message of the Chief of Army staff for the recent success you recorded in the fight against against Boko Haram last week Wednesday.
He is proud of you and ask me to commend you.”

On Wednesday 26th June, 2019, some Boko Haram insurgents came in 7 different vehicles including Armoured Tanker and attempted to attack the 120 Battalion in Goniri.

Troops successfully ambushed and repelled the attack, neutralizing scores of the insurgents, recovered 6 out the 7 gun trucks they came with, while several arms and ammunition were recovered.

“We urge you to do more. When ever they come deal with them, don’t allow them to go back. As the COAS has been telling us, don’t allow them come to your location”, he said.

“Take the battle to them, don’t allow them to come so that we can quickly finish the war and go back to our barracks’.

The COAS added, ”You should always remember the slogan ” be alert, stay alive”. You should keep the Flagg flying. We are proud of you”.

The troops who were in high moral for the COAS to recognize their efforts and vowed to take the battle to the insurgents until complete peace is restored back to the Northeast.
