Guards Brigade assures residents of FCT of readiness to support Police tackle menace/Holds 2019 Inter-Unit drills competition.

Commander of Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Umar Musa on Monday assured residents of the federal capital territory and environs, of the preparedness of the Brigade to support Nigerian Police tackle the menace of kidnapping which is gradually taking root in the FCT.
Speaking at the 2019 Inter-Unit Drills Competition which involved 5 battalions and Guards Brigade Garrison in Abuja on Monday, the Commander said, “It is true that kidnapping has assumed a new dimension recently in the country. But I must tell you that the Police are doing a good job in containing it.
“However, whenever the Police and other security agencies in the FCT need our support to checkmate the criminals, we will support them because our duty is to ensure peace and security”.
Brigadier General Musa also urged residents of the FCT not to panic or resort to fear when they see members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiites) protesting saying the Shiites are being watched.
“As long as whatever agitation they are protesting against is peaceful, there will be no problem. Nigerian Army does not have any problem with that. But when it turns violent and lives and property are at risk, then no one would take it lightly”.
On the drill completion, Brigadier General Musa said it is critical in the Nigerian Army towards improving the troop’s proficiency in the conduct of their military carrier.
He added that the exercise is also typical of producing a vibrant soldier who is alert, confident and discipline which provide the basis for team work, and espirit de- corps amongst the officers and soldiers.
More than 192 soldiers participated in the annual event with 4 units each headed by a Unit Parade Commander and 48 soldiers.
The panels of Judges were drawn from the Nigerian Defence Academy to access the general appearance of troops which include performance, general conduct, and neatness amongst others.
Special Guest of honour at the competition, Director of Clothing and Stores, Army Headquarters, Department of Army Logistics, Brigadier General Henry Tafida Wesley in his remarks charged the troops of Guards Brigade to work towards enhanced physical fitness, psychological and mental alertness in the discharge of their duty professionally and diligently.
His words, “This drill competition will enhance your performance as Guards Brigade troops’ and also endear the confidence of the civil populace in order to actualize the Chief of Army Staff vision “to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles”
He described the performances of the troops during the competition as impressive, saying the soldiers have displayed attractive and physical skills as well as ingenuity into the exercise.
