Troops of Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army in the FCT have intercepted and arrested four notorious Car Snatchers and Armed Robbery Gang who have been terrorizing residents of Abuja.
The suspects Emeka Umera, Solomon Attabo, Otobo Rilwan and Suleiman Salisu were also caught in possession with two locally made pistols and two cartridges
Following the arrest, it was discovered that the 4-man gang were ex-convicts who had been arrested and jailed in the past for criminal acts involving murder and Arson at both Kuje Prisons and Keffi Prisons.
A statement by Major Jajira, the Public Relations Officer of Guards Brigade said, “Troops of Guards Brigade deployed to Kubo checkpoint along FCT-Keffi road on daily routine, at about 6. 30pm intercepted and arrested 2 notorious criminals who deal in armed robbery and car snatching.
“One Emeka Umera and Solomon Attabo. They were intercepted with a snatched vehicle, Toyota RAV 4 Jeep with registration Abuja GWA 62 RZ. The arrest was as a result of a complaint by one Mrs. Mariam Nafiu (wife of a serving military officer) who reported that her vehicle was snatched at gun point at Gudu, Apo area of FCT where she went to pick her ward from school.
Preliminary investigation and follow up operations by Guards Brigade Military Police led to the arrest of two other members of the gang in connection with the crime, one Mr. Otobo Rilwan and Suleiman Salisu who were in possession of 2 locally made pistols and and two cartridges that were used to snatch the car. The arms and ammunition were recovered from them”.
“Though they confessed that the locally made pistols belonged to one Mr. Atai who is still at large but efforts are on to get him,
Major Jajira said, “Further investigations revealed that Emeka Umera, Solomon Attaobo, Otobo Rilwan and Suleiman Salisuare habitual criminals. They are ex-convicts who have served various crimes in Kuje and Keffi prisons respectively on cases bothering on murder and arson.
“The suspects will be handed over to the FCT Police command for further investigations and prosecution”.
