Gunmen Attack Kogi Community, Kill 5, Burn 15 Houses; Police, Army Respond, Kill 6 Gunmen in Shootout.

Following an attack by yet to be revealed gunmen on Akpanche community in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, 15 houses have been burnt while five members of the community were killed. 

However, in a response, Police from Kogi State Command in conjunction with soldiers mobilized to the scene, engaged the gunmen in a shootout, killing six (6) of them. 

Making the disclosure in a statement titled ‘Attacks on Akpanche Village, Bassa LGA of Kogi State’, Kogi Police Command Spokesman, ASP William Ovye said, “The Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Police Command today (Sunda) 22/4/2018 received the news of unfortunate incidents in Akpanche Village, Bassa L.G.A of Kogi State where five (5) persons lost their lives and fifteen houses (15) burnt down. 

“Consequent upon the news, the Mobile Police Force as well as the Nigeria Army promptly moved to the scene to restore peace and order.  

“On sighting the Security personnel, they opened fire at them, but were vehemently resisted by the fire power of the security personnel where six (6) of the attackers were killed. 

“The Commissioner of Police ordered for a thorough investigation into the unfortunate incidents and vowed to prosecute anyone linking to the attacks no matter highly place he is so as to serve as deterrent to others. 

“He urges members of the affected Community to remain calm as the Security agencies are determine to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the State.  

“However, normalcy has been restored in the area.”
