Hardship: CDS Urges Nigerians to Stop Raining Curses on Nation’s Leadership and the Country; Says there is power in the tongue; We should stick together as we have no other country

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Tuesday called on Nigerians to stop raining curses on the country’s leadership and their country, over present issues of economic hardship, insecurity and others saying such curses could be affecting the nation.

According to General Musa, Nigerians should realize that “there is power in the word” so when our leaders are abused, people swear and rain curses on the leadership and on the country, the possibility that these curses will come to hunt the country cannot be ruled out.

The CDS made this disclosure at a one day seminar organized by the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) in Abuja with the theme, ” Civil Military Relations: Non Kinetic Efforts of the Nigerian Military in Security Management, Challenges and Prospects”.

He said, “Sometimes I find it very hard to understand when I hear Nigerians speaking evil about their country.

“And we all know as Africans that there’s a power of the world. What you say means a lot. We must learn how to be positive about our country. That’s the only way we can progress.

“We have seen countries across the world. Most countries, it’s not like they don’t have issues, but they don’t put their own problems in the forefront like we do. And that is what is affecting us as individuals.

“So it’s important that we must take ownership of our country. We must wish our country well and our leaders well. When they make mistakes let us call them to question and proffee solution.

“It should not just be negative criticism. Every day you are insulting, you are cursing. You’re calling for God to punish your country. No, you cannot kill your country because you feel like that. You don’t grow a country that way”.

On situations in the country, Gen Musa said, “The challenges are enormous all over, but we must look at the positive and think positively as well as speak well of our country.

“Speak on whatever that is going on. But positively, I think that’s very, very important.

“I assure you that the federal government will continue to give the armed forces of Nigeria and other security agencies the resources required to perform effectively.

“We know there are issues with the economy situation on ground. There is never a time where you can have all you need.

“For instance, the budget of America for Defence for this year is over $800 billion. If you look at our budgets, convert it to dollars. I’m sure you know, do the maths, you know how much we’re getting. Yet, Americans produce what they need. We don’t.

“We need to buy sometimes.Even when you have the money, the troops need equipment so you can understand the environment we’re operating. It is it is not easy, but the government is doing that.

“When you hear people saying, calling the President names and saying terrible things and saying terrible things to the wife of the President or the family members, that’s not how you grow your country.

“By insulting or wishing evil to your to your country does not mean you’ll grow better. Quenching somebody’s life does not mean your own will grow better. As a team, we must take ownership of Nigeria to ensure that Nigeria develops.

“Being members of the Defense Correspondence Association of Nigeria your support for operations and your enviable contributions in furthering the strategic communication of the Armed Forces of Nigeria is highly appreciated and I want to also seize the opportunity to also appreciate this.

“While I was in the theatre, the media had always been there for us. Your support made it possible that we’re able to get over 100,000 terrorists and their family members as well as the combatants to surrender.

“It is because the media has projected what we’re doing well and we should continue to do that. We should always remember if we don’t have a Nigeria none of us will be here today.

He expressed profound gratitude to Bola Tinubu President for his continous support to the armed forces of Nigeria and for his support to every Security Agency in our quest to fulfill our contributions.

The Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace and a former Director of NAF Public Relations, Group Capt Sadeeq Shehu (rtd) delivered lectures at the seminar.

Dignitaries at the occasion included the DG Nigerian Army Resource Center, Major General Garba Wahab (rtd), the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major Gen Edward Buba, the National Coordinator, National Counter Terrorism Center, represented by Commodore BM Sule, Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau and former Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen SK Usman (rtd).
