Hundred’s celebrate Armed Forces Remembrance Day at newly built Military Cenotaph at Damasak, Borno

Hundreds of residents of the town of Damasak in Northern Borno gathered on Saturday the 15 January 2012 at the newly built military cenotaph Damasak that is located at the Center of the town to witness the first Armed Forces Remembrance Day Parade to take place in the town.

The event started with the commissioning of the beautiful cenotaph that was built by the 5 Brigade Nigerian Army in commenmoration of the nation’s fallen heroes, and then the ceremony started with the laying of wreaths in remembrance of the Nation’s fallen heroes.

In his address at the occasion the Brigade Commander, Brig Gen SS Tilawan reiterated the importance of always paying respect on this day to the country’s fallen heroes as it is a way to encourage the next generation to be ready to make sacrifies for the country’s peace and progress.

He said that we as Nigerians must not be a people that do not remember the servant and the service when it is past.

The Brigade Commander, Commanding officer 145 Bn, the Local Governmnet Chairman, Police DPO and the Comd CJTF laid wreath’s during the ceremony.

Also medals were awarded to some personnel that had completed their tour of duty.

Thereafter the Brigade Commander and his entourage went to inspect the Central Mosque Damasak and COCIN Church Damasak that were recently renovated by the Brigade to assist the community cope with the increading influx of returnees from Niger Republic and other parts of the country.

The Commander also inspected the Public Toilets at the Main Market that were renovated by the Brigade to help the community cope with the challenge of increasing need for inconvievences at the market since the weekly market was reopened 3 weeks afer.
