IG orders probe of Police Inspector caught with 75 bags of Indian hemp; commends entertainment industry over fight on corruption.

 
The Police High Command on Tuesday ordered investigation into the arrest of a Police Inspector, allegedly by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for carrying 75 bags of Indian hemp in a Police vehicle.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said “For the avoidance of doubt, the Force was not aware of the arrest of the purported Inspector Abali Zagi by the NDLEA for the said offence until it was reported in the media.
“However, his identity and the Police vehicle claimed to have been used to commit the act are currently being verified. After a careful study of the report the Inspector General of Police directed a full scale investigation into the incidence.
“The Police investigation team is to liaise with the NDLEA to ascertain the true personality of the purported Inspector, take appropriate departmental action against him if found out to be a serving personnel of the Force and ensure his prosecution by the NDLEA.
Also, a group ‘Voice of Change’ comprising representatives of the music industry, movie actors, NANS, civil society and sports personalities have called on the Inspector general of Police not to relent in the fight against corruption in the country. 
In his speech during the visit to the IGP, the group led by Actor, Emeka Ike expressed readiness to support the fight against corruption in the country.
The entertainment group disclosed their readiness to embark on rally tagged “Mega Rally” Voice of Change Nigeria in all the States of the Federation, with Abuja hosting the grand finale.
Appreciating the efforts of the entertainment industry, especially in engaging youths in activities that deter them from partaking in crime, the IGP lauded the group for using their movies to reduce unemployment in the country.
He commended the group for their courage to organize the rally against corruption, saying all Nigerians must join hands together to see the end of fight against corruption.
The IGP assured the group that all the Commissioners of Police in charge of State Commands will be directed to provide adequate security for the group during their campaign. 
IGP Idris reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption noting that right from the time he took over the mantle of the force, he declared his Assets via Code of Conduct Bureau and that his officers have also followed suit.
