Obviously elated with the determination and focus with which the federal government is tackling worrying issues of illegal migration and human trafficking through NAPTIP, delegations from the European Union and Niger Republic have paid courtesy visits to Dame Julie Okah-Donli, the Director General.
First to call on the DG was the delegation from the European Union Parliament Sub-Committee on Human Rights led by EU Ambassador Ketil Karlsen.
The delegation visited the Agency’s shelter where scores of rescued victims of human trafficking are taken care off, with report indicating that more than N1million is spent for their daily upkeep including feeding, medicament’s and other sundry requirements.
The visit to NAPTIP was part of the delegation’s tour to Nigeria to meet with relevant agencies that deal with human rights issues and discussions centred around the activities of the Agency and areas the EU can assist Nigeria in combating human trafficking.

Particular emphasizes was place on areas of prosecution of citizens of European countries who are also involved in human trafficking and its forms of exploitation.
The delegation from the Government of the Republic of Niger, led by Mr. Saley Boubacar, the Permanent Secretary of the framework of Consultation on Ministry of Interior was at NAPTIP on Friday 6th April 2018, where they met with the DG, Dame Julie Okah-Donli and some members of her Management Team.
The purpose of the visit according to the leader was to discuss and learn from NAPTIP’s experience, especially as the Government of the Republic of Niger is in a process to formulate a National Policy of Migration.
It should be noted that, Nigeria and Niger, sharing the same border, are faced with human trafficking and irregular migration issues.
More so, both countries are listed as Source, Transit and Destination countries for children and women subjected to trafficking in persons.
