Independence Celebration: Military High Command Pledges Total Subordination to Democracy/Constituted Civil Authorities; washes hands off Kanu’s disappearance

The Military High Command in Abuja has pledged the total subordination of its officers and men to constituted civilian authorities noting that the armed forces will remain completely dedicated to its constitutional duties.

Director of Defence Information, Major General John Enenche who gave the stand of the military at forum with defence correspondents on Friday, also disclosed that the dedication of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, to the protection of lives and property of all peace loving people where ever they live in Nigeria was unquestionable.

Speaking on the call on the military to reveal the whereabouts of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Enenche, denied claims that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is in the custody of the military.

Also, reacting to question on wether the military would declare Nnamdi Kanu wanted, Gen Enenche, said it not the responsibility of Defence Headquarters to declare him wanted.

His words, “Nnamdi Kanu is not in the custody of the military. It is  not the responsibility of DHQ to declare Nnamdi Kanu wanted.”

He reiterated, “The Commitment of the military to routine training and regular exercising of troops, to keep fit professionally, in order to tackle security challenges in the Country”.

“Furthermore, Defence Headquarters reassures the general public of conducting its duties and tasks in line with best international military practices.

“Finally, the general public is requested to furnish the security agencies with information on suspicious activities of individuals, groups or organizations that are contrary to Nigeria’s national security”.

Regarding its internal and foreign military activities, the DDI said, “The various operations and exercises under the Defence Headquarters are being sustained in the North East, North West, North Central, South West, South-South and South Eastern parts of Nigeria.

“Troops of Operation Restore Democracy in the Gambia have been rotated. The contingent earned the operational medal, due to their outstanding performance.

“A new set has been inducted into the mission (ECOMIG)”.

Furthermore, he said, “The Defence Headquarters reaffirms the unalloyed loyalty of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari”.
