Medicine Sans Frontiers (MSF) also known as Doctors without Borders has been urged to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in North Eastern Nigeria, particularly in Borno state to settle down in their communities.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Rogers Nicholas made this appeal today during a working visit by an MSF team led by the Head of Mission, Kerry Kelly, to Headquarters, Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri.
Speaking further, General Nicholas told the MSF team of an impending military operation, code named Operation Last Hold; aimed at mobilizing IDPs and helping them return and resettle in their respective communities to resume a new life and socio economic activities.

He pointed out that the IDPs will require lots of humanitarian support and coping mechanisms to facilitate their resettlement. General Nicholas called on all well-meaning Humanitarian and Government Agencies to key into Operation Last Hold in order to support the IDPs in regaining their occupation and livelihoods.
MSF Head of Mission, Kerry Kelly stated during the visit that the INGO conducts regular medical programming and emergency services in support of IDPs within the theatre of operation in the North East.
She noted that over 5000 patients have been treated for Cholera aside engaging in other Medicare projects, including water sanitation, paediatrics and nutritional services, to bring succor to the IDPs.
