IOM visits COAS in Maiduguri; pledge support to de-escalate conflict in North East

The Head of Transition and Recovery, International Organization for Migration and Representative of the Chief of Mission of the organization, Dr Fernando Medina has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai at the Headquarters Command and Control Centre in Maiduguri on Tuesday the 25 June 2019.

In his remarks at the occasion, Dr Fernando commended the Nigerian Army for the untiring efforts and commitment to end insurgency and the successes achieved so far.

He intimated the COAS of his organization’s readiness to support to partner with the Nigerian Army to de-escalate the conflict through collaboration/provision of technical support at organizational, communities and individuals levels to contribute to peace building, intervention, reintegration and community reconstruction efforts of the Nigerian Army/Federal Government.

In his response, Lieutenant General TY Buratai thanked the organization for the visit and appreciates the President and the group’s efforts towards strengthening peace and security in the world, particularly in Nigeria.

He expressed readiness to provide the needed support for the organization to effectively carry out its plans in the North East Zone.

Among the senior officers present during the visit were the Chief of Logistics Army Major General Enabong Udoh, the Commander Theatre Command Major General Benson Akinroluyo, Director Military Intelligence Major General SA Adebayo, Commander Special Forces Major General MG Ali and Acting Provost Marshal Nigerian Army Brigadier General H Ahmed.

Rear Admiral AA Dacosta Consultant Disengagement, Dis-association, Reintegration and Reconstruction of International Organization of Migration accompanied Dr Fernando to the visit.
