Jubilation as Unique Course 38 Ladies  Association Commissions 2 Boreholes for Soldiers, Families & Civilian Staff of NDC Ushafa Camp/Barrack, Bwari, Abuja

The National Defence College Ushafa Camp/Barracks located at Bwari in the FCT, was the venue of the commissioning of two Solar Powered Boreholes built by the Unique 38 Regular Course Ladies Welfare Association on Saturday June 3, 2023 with President of DEPOWA, Barr (Mrs) Vickie Anwuli Irabor commending the initiative and completion of the ‘Life Saving’ projects.

Speaking at the occassion, Special Guest of Honour, and wife of the Chief of Defence Staff said the feat of providing the massive boreholes at the barrack which has brought so much joy to Soldiers and their families is a development worth celebrating adding that it has endeared Unique 38 Ladies to her heart.
“Water is life and you have brought life to this Ushafa community”
Recalling that in the past, the society used to see wives of military officers as women who only specialize in gossiping, Barr Mrs Irabor said the borehole projects and numerous other projects provided by officers wives of various associations which are bringing smiles and joy to people as well as impacting the barracks communities have changed such thinking and narrative.
“Today’s ceremony brings to the fore, the current burning issue which is the fact that Military wives are a force to be reckoned with. Today we can testify that the notion of gossipers is gone and we as miilitary wives are impacting positively on our society”, she said.
While commending the husbands of Unique Ladies Associstion (Members of 38 Regular Course NDA), Mrs Irabor said, the Officers and gentlemen have been very supportive of their wives adding, “The husbands are the ones giving them the wings to fly, soar and achieve these wonderful endeavours”.
“Without them, Unique Ladies would not be here. So I want to urge you (Unique Ladies) to imbibe more, the motto of your associstion which is sisters supporting sisters and continue to impact society positively”.
In her renarks, Chairlady of Unique 38 Regular Course Ladies Welfare Association, Mrs Judith Olufunke Akinjobi said the association embarked on the two projects because “Our association has always thoughtvit fit to put smiles on the faces of those who need it most”.
According to her, “We decided on the two Solar powered boreholes because access to clean drinking water is a fundamenral human right. So together, we will continue to uplift, inspire and bring joy to society.
“The initial plan wasvto build one solar powered borehole with the relevant facilities. However, during theccourse of work, a second location was identified where a borehole had been sunk but abandoned.
“The Unique ladies took up the challenge to resuscitate he borehole and provided five tanks, taps and other facilities to make water available for all the residents” she said.
Mrs Akinjobi recalled that the associstion in 2021 embarked on a corporate social responsibility project in the srea of visiting patients at Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital during which medical bills of some patients were paid off by the association.
The association also donated items to the DEPOWA Vocational  Centre to support the training of student trainees.
The National President, Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association, (NAOWA), Mrs Salamatu Yahaya in her goodwill remarks commended the Unique Ladies Welfare Association for their magnanimity in putting smiles on the faces of members of the society through their humanitarian support services and urge them not to relent as the almighty will reward them for good deeds.
Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral MM Bashir and President of the Regular Course 38 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General Solomon Udounwa in their seperate remarks commended the Unique Ladies for their contribution towards upliftng the barracks community and the society in general
Among the members of 38 regular ciurse present at the occassion were Major Gen Olufemi Akinjobi, GOC, I division, Major Gen Christopher Musa, Commander, Infantry Corps, Major Gen Charles Ofoche, Rear Admiral Ayo Banjo, Air Vice Marshal Mesiyer and Major Gen Fagge.
