Kabba Day 2017: Melaye Receives Heroic Welcome to Kogi; Avoids Alleged Sponsored violence

The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, to Saturday made a triumphant entry to Kogi State to witness the 2017 edition of the annual Kabba Day celebrations.

Melaye was equally the cynosure of all eyes at the prestigious event attended by prominent sons and daughters of Okun land which was meant to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Kabba people.

The lawmaker was hailed by thousands of supporters and admirers on arrival at the Kabba township stadium venue of the event before he delivered a goodwill message to the admiration of his constituents and guests alike present.

Meanwhile, according to a statement, “trouble started when Senator Melaye, who was about leaving the venue on his own volition, was accosted by suspected hired thugs led by the member representing Ajaokuta local government in the State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bello.

Apparently, Melaye’s superlative outing had angered them as information filtered in that Governor Yahaya Bello, who was in Kabba town in one of the hotels (Golden Grand Royale) owned by the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole, could not come to the venue at the same time with Melaye.

The suspected thugs thereafter threw sachets of water at the convoy of Senator Melaye on his way of the stadium in order to vent their anger on behalf of Bello.

The statement signed by Gideon Ayodele, SA Media to Senator Melaye said, “Fear of Melaye stopped Governor Yahaya from coming to the venue after arriving Kabba”.

“The Chief of Staff to the governor, Edward Onoja, was also seen with another group of suspected thugs at Senator Melaye’s new Constituency Office, shooting sporadically, apparently with a belief that the cerebral lawmaker was at the building to commission the facility” Ayodele added in the statement.
