The Nigerian Airforce says personnel, Aircraftman Ben Kalu, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Solape Oladipupo also of the NAF, will face a military Court Martial on Monday 22nd May 2017, at the NAF Base in Makurdi, Benue State.
Director of Airforce Public Relations, Air Commodore Olatokumbo Adesanya who confirmed the trial disclosed that the Court Martial would be inaugurated on Monday.
It was gathered that after the court martial, if Kalu is found guilty of murder, he would be handed over to appropriate security agency for prosecution.
The Non Commissioned Officer had on Sunday, March 12, alleged shot dead Oladipupo, in her apartment at the base, on the grounds that she was unfaithful in their romantic affair.
Oladipupo was rushed to the NAF Hospital at the base and later transferred to the state hospital, where she died.
Kalu after the incident was said to have left a suicide note, threatening to kill himself which gave him out, before he was arrested by the NAF.
He was said to have been taken for psychiatric tests thereafter during investigation to ascertain his mental state as it will assist in the court martial proceedings.
The need to streamline Kalu’s secondment from the Logistics Command, Lagos to Tactical Command, Makurdi which is the AOR where the incident happened, was attributed as the cause of delay in commencing the trial.
