Killer of DSS Operative in Cross Rivers State nabbed: in Police Net

Following the arrest of the village head of the community where the known killer of a DSS operative (one Emmanuel Kpongkpong), hails from and insistence that he must be produced before the village hesd is relessed, the killer has been arrested.

The murderer of Mr. Michael Orusede, the DSS personnel, was arrested by a vigilante group in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Recall the Mr. Orusede was stabbed to death while trying to disarm a randy gunman on Thursday in Sankwala, headquarters of Obanliku LGA.

The deceased was stabbed when he attempted to pick up a gun that was surrendered by the gunman who stabbed him in the chest with a daggar.

The gunman also in the process shot the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Obanliku Police Division, Mr. Effiong Okon, at close range before escaping from the scene of the incident.

Police sources said that on Monday, the gunman who was identified as Emmanuel Kpongkpong escaped to Cameroon and was arrested in the Bomaji mountain in Boki LGA.

One of the residents in Sankwala, Mr. Thomas Okwan said that the vigilante group swung into action after their village head was arrested by the police and ordered to produce the killer.

“The suspect has been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar.

“The village head of Sankwala was arrested by the police in Obanliku Division and he was given an order to produce the gunman.

“The arrested village head directed the vigilante group, made up of youth leaders of various communities, to look for the gunman, which they did.

“They arrested the gunman in Bomaji Mountain while he was attempting to escape to Cameroon.

“The youths brought Emmanuel Kpongkpong to the police station and used him to secure the release of their village head.”

Cross Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

She said, “Yes, I can confirm that the killer of the DSS officer has been arrested. He was arrested on Sunday and he has been brought to Calabar. He will be charged to court very soon.”
