Against the backdrop of killing of a resident of Tungan – Maje community in the Federal Capital Territory by Soldiers said to be from the Army Headquarters Garrison (AHQ Garrison), and serious injuries inflicted on three other persons, the AHQ Garrison has began a joint investigation with the FCT Police into the matter.
Consequently, the Army headquarters Garrison has set machinery in place to ascertain the authenticity of the allegation as well as fish out the soldiers that perpetrated the killing and inflicted the injuries on the victims.
AHQ Garrison however denied that the incident involved soldiers from its Garrison as it had no checkpoint in the area not were its troops, authorized to patrol the route.
A statement by Col Omale Ochagwuba, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations said, “The attention of the Nigerian Army Headquarters Garrison has been drawn to the erroneous allegations making the rounds that Army Headquarters Garrison troops clashed with Tungan-Maje community along Giri-Zuba road which led to the unfortunate death of one person and injury to three other people.
“The fact of the matter is that, there was no clash between AHQ troops and Tungan-Maje community.
“What happened was that there was a convoy of troops traveling along that road towards Zuba which was also confirmed by the community that the troops that clashed with them were traveling along the road before they ran into the road block mounted by them.
“AHQ garrison neither has a checkpoint along that road, nor patrol it.
“The incident is being jointly investigated by AHQ garrison and FCT Police Command to trace the unit of the troops allegedly involved in the clash”
