Kogi State Command Records Successes against Criminal Gangs, Kidnappers, Armed Robbers; Arrest suspects; Recover Arms Ammunition

Briefing by CP Ali A. Janga, CP Kogi State Command on 9/10/2017.

As part of command’s continuous onslaught against criminal activities in the State such as Armed robbery, kidnapping, Cultism, cattle rustling, through a proactive crime preventing strategy, some vicious and notorious kidnap for ransom gangs were dislodged and busted in their hideout and camps across the State.

These achievement were due to the proactive strategies rooted in intelligence led policing and robust interaction with the various strata of our communities, particularly in the area of information gathering, since it has become obvious that security is an all stakeholders affairs.

The area commanders as well as DPOs were charged to beef up security in their Area of Responsibilities (AOR) and ensure massive deployment of police patrol teams and undercover operatives to black spot, flash points and other vulnerable criminal spots to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminally across the State and make sure that detection of crime are prompt to serve as effective deterrent to all criminals.

The renewed commitment of the command to reduce crimes and criminality in the State remains unwavering. Below are the details of the arrest and recoveries.

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS.

On the 6/10/2017 at about 0600hrs, upon credible information that some hoodlums at Early Base Hotel Idah road, Anyigba were threatening to kidnap one victor Ukubile Nathaniel a five years Son to Nathaniel Ukubile of Egume in Dekina LGA. Operatives promptly swung into action, intercepted and arrested the following suspects;

  1. Shehu Agba
  2. Ibrahim James
  3. Daniel Danisa John
  4. Suleiman Isiaka
  5. Nature Habila Jesse
  6. Sunday Kadiri

The exhibits recovered from them include,

 

  1. One AK47 rifle with breech no. 06796
  2. Twenty eight rounds of live ammunition
  3. One locally made pistol
  4. One Opel Vectra Car, Reg. No. GYB 129 XA Bauchi
  5. Two daggers
  6. Injection Syringe
  7. One Promethazine injection
  8. Two knives
  9. One Rope
  10. Two Extra number plates

Suspects confessed to the commission of crime and will soon be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.

 

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS/RECOVERY OF FIREARM

Based on the information that sometimes in February, 2017 a gang of kidnap syndicate kidnapped the Imam of Enabo in Ankpa LGA and collected the sum of 1,000,000 as ransom. Operatives track down the syndicate and arrest the duo of Musa Mohammed and Suleiman Isa. Upon interrogation, they both confessed to belonging to a gang of five kidnappers terrorizing Ankpa area. Searched of their premises led to the recovery a locally made Pistol.

 

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS/KIDNAPPERS/RECOVERIES OF FIREARMS

Sequel to information early in the year about the nefarious activities of s notorious kidnap and armed robbery syndicate terrorizing law abiding citizens in Ankpa axis of the State. Operatives of the Command were detailed to discreetly monitor the gang. The efforts yielded dividends with the arrest of the duo of Mohammed Abubakar and Abdulsalam Musa, while they just returned from a robbery operation. Suspects confessed to numerous robbery operations in Ankpa area including the robbery in the house of a Pastor which led to their arrests and arraignment but they for yet to be established reasons secured their release. Items recovered from them include, one AK47 rifle and one locally made Pistol.

 

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS

On the 12/09/2017 at about 2700hrs, based on information that some notorious hoodlums were sighted in their hideout. Operatives of SARS attached to OKENE promptly swung into action, raided the black spot, and arrested one Yusuf Sale, a notorious criminal on the Command’s wanted list. Upon interrogation, he confessed to participate in a number of recent kidnap incidents along Okene-Auchi, Kabba-Okene road. He led the Operatives to his hideout sy Fulani camp in Ogidi via Ibilo in Edo State and recovered one AK47 rifle with breech no 21720 and twenty two rounds of live ammunition.

 

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER

On the 18/9/2017 at about 1400hrs, following intelligence tip-off on criminal elements terrorizing OSARA area, detectives from the Division swung into action, arrested one Jemiu Isiaka of Unobaji Camp OSARA and recovered one unregistered Qlink motorcycle. On interrogation, suspect confessed to have snatched the motorcycle from yet to be identify owner at gun point

 

  1. RECOVERY OF AK47 RIFLE BREECH NO. 344128

On the 29/9/2017 at about 0900hrs, SIB Operatives attached to OSARA Division while on surveillance patrol along OSARA main market sighted two suspicious looking young men carrying a bag. He beckoned them to stop for search, but immediately dropped the bag and fled. Upon search of the bag, one AK47 rifle with breech no. 344128, a empty magazine were recovered. Efforts are on to track down the fleeing suspects.

 

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTS BELONGING TO UNLAWFUL SOCIETY/RECOVERY OF FIREARM

On the 34/9/2017 at about 1800hrs, based on information received that some group of young boys suspected to be cultist were sighted in an uncompleted building located along Liberia area in Ankpa LGA for their meeting and possible initiation of new members. Detectives attached to Ankpa Division promptly swung into action moved to the scene, on sighting the Police they all ran and hide inside the ceiling of the uncompleted building. The operatives cordoned the area and arrested the following suspects;

  1. Jamiu Lawal
  2. Imuran Mohammed
  3. Shekuru Ijah
  4. Isaac Emmanuel
  5. Idris Adamu
  6. Henry Anthony
  7. Sadiq Seidu
  8. Sunday Yahaya

Items recovered include one locally made Pistol and one old White cloth suspected to be masquerade regalia.

 

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECT IN A CASE OF HOMICIDE

On the 2/10/2017 at about 1000hrs, acting on a complaint received from one Elias Okpanachi at Ankpa Division that onv30/9/2017 at about 1100hrs, that one Omeke Amaechi and one other at large left Nsuka in Enugu State to Ankpa LGA to meet their gang member popularly known as “WATER” it was further revealed that, the suspect and his gang parked in a hiding corner at Ankpa on a pretence that their vehicle was faulty, while suspect returned with a commercial motorcycle rider named Mohammed Yahaya. On reaching their point, they attacked the rider and beat him with a plant to death and took away his Daylong motorcycle. While Omeke Amaechi was escaping with the motorcycle to Nsuka through Ogugu/Etteh road in Olamaboro LGA was intercepted and arrested by a combined team of Police and vigilante. Suspect confessed to the crime, while efforts is on top gear to track down the fleeing suspects. He will soon be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.

 

  1. RECOVERIES OF FIREARMS

On the 8/9/2017 at about 1700hrs, a good citizen of the State while working in his farm at Abuga Okengwe in Okene  LGA of Kogi State, discovered firearms buried in his farm and reported to SARS Operatives attached to OKENE. Upon receipt of this information, SARS operatives raced to the location and recovered one SMG rifle with breech no. 27040 and Smoke Pistol with breech no. 972wk6830
