Lafiya Dole: Army inaugurates Court Martial to try 21 erring troops.

The Operation Lafiya Dole Command has inaugurated a Court Martial to discipline airing officers and solders deployed to the theater for fight Boko Haram insurgency.

While inaugurating the Special Court Martial at the Officers Mess of the Maimalari Cantonment on Thursday, the Theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Benson Akinroluyo said “Military as an institution is known with maintenance of discipline and decorum in its way if doing things.

“The operational efficiency of the military is better retained when the ethnic and customs aimed at enhancing discipline are encouraged”

General Akinroluyo ”The decision to convene this General Court Martial under my command was based on powers conferred on me as a Commander, under section 131(2)(d) of the Armed Force’s Act CAP A20 LFN 2004″.

“This court does not have any special interest to serve, rather than the routine duties within the realm of regimentation.

“This stipulates that principles of natural justice, equity, and fairness, which are the enabling pillars of this General Court Martial, will surely be conducted throughout its sittings.

He assured that nobody has any reason to fear as the court will carry out its proceedings in accordance with the dictates of the extant rules and regulations, adding that they will make sure that a level playing field is provided for the accused persons and the prosecution.

He further said ”my commitment towards just and fair adjudication in all cases will not be compromised.

The court is expected to deal with 21 accused person for various offences ranging from operational and administrative offences.

“Finally I call on the President of the court Brigadier General Abdullahi Ibrahim and members of the court, as well as all stakeholders, to remember that enormous duty is placed on them and they should endeavour to discharge it justifiably.

“I wish you all wisdoms and tenacity as you poise toward discharging these responsibilities,” General Akinroluyo said.
