Lafiya Dole: Buratai Commissions Residential office/Accommodation; Opens Human Rights Desk Office.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Tukur Buratai on Tuesday, 3rd October 2017, commissioned several residential and office accommodation in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri to address shortage of accommodation in the Barracks.

The projects include 18 flats for Corporal and Below ranks and both married and singles officers accommodation.

There is also a 20-bed Hospital ward for wounded soldiers and 6 Human Rights Desk Offices complex.

The new infrastructures are all meant to provide decent living accommodation for officers and soldiers and their families.

The Human rights offices will provide a conducive Human Rights Desk where violations of Human Rights abuses within 7 Division will be treated.

In his address to the beneficiaries of the newly constructed residential quarters stated that, Buratai said it would boost the morale of troops as they strived to conclude the task of eliminating the remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists and other security challenges under Operation Lafiya Dole.

He also charged the troops to remain focused in the task of consolidating the achievements so far made while assuring them of the Army’s support under his direction for continuous provision of requisite welfare and logistics to enhance their efficiency in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Earlier on, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Nigerian Army Brigadier General Ibrahim Yusuf, in his welcome address, said “enhancing the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel remains one of the cardinal points of the COAS vision” – to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles’’.

The GOC said the projects which were of Direct Labour, was executed by personnel of the Nigerian Army Engineers and funded by the COAS.

He therefore urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facilities and to remain loyal to the entire Nation.

It’s worth knowing that the hospital ward was constructed by Nigerian Army in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). 

Present at the occasion were the Chief of Training and Operations Army (CTOP) Major Gen DD Ahmadu, Director of Civil-Military Affairs Major Gen Angbazo, Director of Military Intelligence Maj Gen Tarfa, Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Head of other Security Agencies, principal staff officers from Army Headquarters, 7 Division as well as officers, soldiers and their families
